Thumbs up which oil for my vz exec wagon on duel fuel alloytec

just bought an ex fleet wagon on duel fuel, i know there is alot of threads about this topic but most are old. people will have owned their cars for 5 odd years now and have racked up some kays, so let me know what brand and viscosity oil you have been using, the odomoter of ur vehicle and how often u change oil and economy. also keep in mind the lpg.
far as i know its just the basic engine not high output or anything.
also is the oil filter easy to change in that metal case, and it looks like the manifold needs to be removed to change sparkplugs? also in the service book it says 120k sp plug change, can i use standard plugs and change every 15k, i dont like the idea of platinum sparkplugs being in there for 120k and or 5 plus years. cheers matt.

Synthetic oils (e.g. Mobil 1) work really well with Alloytec engines. Spark plug replacement requires removal of the manifold. I'd use what's recommended by the OEM (i.e. Bosch double platinum plugs gapped to 1.1mm). Plugs should be replaced earlier since you have a dual fuel engine.

The reason Platinum Spark Plugs are only changed every 5 years or 120k is that they are designed to last that long. If you reckon that you know better than Holden or the plug manufacturers, go for it. As for the type of oil, whatever is in recommended in your Owners Handbook. Castrol recommend Edge Sport 5W-30 or Maganatec 10W-40 you could also use GTX-3 10W-30 or GTX Modern Engine 10W-30 I believe that there are other oil manufacturers that also make a suitable oil. I change my engine oil AND FILTER every 5,000 km. Keeps the engine clean and I don't get any discolouration at all between changes. Alloytec engines require clean engine oil which means regular changes (within manufactureers specifications) .

The manufacturer's servicing intervals are meant to be used as a GUIDE only. You'd only be fooling yourself if you believe that those intervals are set in concrete and are the only times you need to service the car.

LPG requires a stronger ignition system than petrol. 80,000km is already pushing it when it comes to spark plug replacement intervals if you're using this fuel. How do I know? Our family has not one, but THREE LPG-converted cars.

Same applies for oil and oil change intervals. Even if your oil looks clean after 10,000km, it's a good idea to change your oil before the recommended interval. You'll only be doing your engine a favour in the long run. As for recommended oils, again there's nothing to say that these oils are BEST for that engine. As long as you use the right viscosity, you shouldn't have any issues. Synthetic oils work well on the Alloytec engines and a good synthetic oil will make your engine run heaps quieter.

ended up sticking with original 10w 30 from mantello holden fawkner a bit under $50 for 6 litres. if i ever buy a brand spanker ill prob run mobil 1 for $80-90 a bottle and change every 5 thou, but this is an ex-fleet car and prob has been serviced with the holden oil i would guess from day 1.
