If you have removed the rubber, and only the outer steel shell is left in the control arm, you can remove it by sawing it through with a hacksaw, then driving one side of the cut in towards the centre of the hole. ONce the shell has been cut, the tension is removed and the shell is much easier to remove.
Simply place the arm in a vice, leaving the inner end nice and clear to work on. Remove the hacksaw blade from your hacksaw, pass it through the bush, then reconnect the saw handle. Tighten the blade up as far as you can and cut the shell nice and flat so that you cut through it evenly, and don't actually cut the arm.
thankyou, that sounds like it should work!!!! i hope it does, ill let you know!, thanks for the advice!
hacksaw worked like a treat. Thankyou!! + rep given.
Thanks mate. It's an old method but a goodie.
getting a new one back in will probably be harder that getting the old one out ..not sure if urethane ones are hard to get in...the harsh ride they give and how they tend to move make rubber ones a better prospect .....with my vr I gave up before I hurt myself.......just went down to the local pedders and got someone there to press the old rubber ones out and press the new rubber ones in for a few bucks

I replaced all the rubbers front and rear in my VR a few years ago, using pullers and press plates I made up myself and a heavy duty vice. It was a shit of a job with a couple of bushes that didn't want to co-operate, but I managed to replace every one over two weekends. What a difference it made, as the car had done over 280,000 at the time and some of the bushes were absolutely r.s.
putting the new one in was fine as it was a fully urethane bush rather than having a metal shell
