I got a new exhaust system put on and drove 150km when I arrived at my destination the temp gauge was up and a bubbling/boiling sound was coming from under bonnet. I contacted exhaust shop but they denied it could be anything they did. I have had NO previous cooling issues with car.....what has happened????? Can anyone help
Hi,
Was just wondering how much of the exhaust was replaced? Was it cat back or closer to the engine?
drivers side cat was replaced then single pipe 2.5 Sports system -I was told they didnt touch anything near the engine. Have driven car short distance since and no overheating....but will see if it happens on next big drive..do you think its exhaust related or a bad coincedence and something else has gone wrong?? Mechanic will be checking it out on weekend but wanted advice from here![]()
Dodge radiator cap perhaps, mine overheated once and found it to be the problem
Life starts at 200km/h
I can't see it being exhaust related so its probably just a bad coincidence.
^^^ Same here.
MissSV6, check ur radiator cap, there's a possibility that the rubber ring on the underside of the cap has worn.
The Blue One
Maybe they disconnected the battery to do some welding on the exhaust , then when reconnected it may have blown a radiator electric fan fuse or the fan relay????
mine overheated on the way to the exhaust shop haha, Check your top and bottom hoses? Check the hose rings. My Radiator blew a few days later.
sounds like its just a coincidence it happened after you had your exhaust done

Quick thing you can do, start the car when it's cold and run your hand around the exhaust joins just under the car..... make sure they are sealed..... i cant remember which way it goes if they leak, lean or rich etc. but an idea just to check anyway.
but it's probably unrelated. a change in exhaust can change pressure, may bring on more engine knocking?... which does heat the engine. I doubt it'd be anything like that.
.......
check the exhaust is sealed, then check the radiator cap i recon.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest the Oxy sensor but I think from memory it's located closer to the engine. Was thinking if something had happened to it the ECU may be leaning out your fuel mixture?
Ben.
Thanks for your replies. The problem was the high speed cooling fan...I didnt realise they wernt even going..just something you get used too. The line was burnt out and has been replaced along with the fuse...so hopefully thats the end of it...mechanic reckons its unrelated to the exhaust. But I still think its a bit weird that it happened same day.
one of those bad coincidences
like when the car plays up everyday .... except the one that its at a mechanic!
Theres no way the exhaust would affect the cooling fan, its like saying the bananas went off at Woolies because the milk in the fridge had expired
UPDATE: Turned on car this morning and gave it some revs and water came out of exhaust...please tell me its not the head gasket!!!Ok...so the fan has stopped working again it got really hot yesterday while on a drive and you could hear the bubbling when I pulled over. The relay and fuse were replaced on Friday and it had a service and tune up. The fan comes on when the aircon is running but otherwise not.....what do you think the prob is. Car is going back to mechanic tomorrow.

water can be normal..... it's mostly dependant on where you live.
If it's cold your car was probably hot when u turned it off, and the heat/steam formed condensation i wouldn't worry about that really.
Its pretty normal...... my car when it was stock used to do that in winter.

water from the exhaust is not a problem. if it was a head gasket it would be blowing white smoke when you drive ... =) its ok breathe and relax haha
the fuse might be blowen again? there could be a short in the electrical system somewhere ?
After being at Mechanic and Auto Electrician they think the problem is now the thermostat..which is a pain in the ass to get too aparently
your not having a good run =(
Arghh I know but thats part of the joy of owning a Holden :P
when you said overheating problems originally my thoughts instantly went to heater tap?, everybody I know who has a commodore is like...mate those heater taps are shithouse keep an eye on themwhich im happy to believe because I had a vectra (p.o.s) and its heater tap blew...cheap enough to replace but a pain in the butt
