Default Which size tyre to use?

    Hi y'all,
I am fitting some factory 16 x 7 mags to my VZ and would like to know the correct size to use.
The original rims and tyres are 205-65-15.
I checked a tyre size calculator on the internet and came up with these sizes that would work:

    215 - 55 - 16...................Speedo over-reads .7%
    225 - 55 - 16...................Speedo under-reads 1%
    235 - 50 - 16...................Speedo over-reads .9%

However, the 215-55-16 tyres are expensive and the tyre people said to fit 215-60-16
This will make the speedo under-read by 2.6%......way too much!
What size was fitted from the factory on 16x7 mags, please?

Also, is 235 too large for these rims?

I'd say 225/50R16 that is a very common size of tyre so will be readily available and a good size for your rim. 235 is bit of a stretch for a 7inch rim but still will fit on.

Yes, I was looking at the 225-50s, however the speedo will over-read by 2.5% which is a quite a difference.
I was worried this difference would be too much.

    That was 225/55's, not 50's

Yes, I replied to sweefu at the same time as you posted, so they "overlapped".
Thanks for all these replies, I contacted the tyre company and apparently the car companys allow up to about 5% difference on the speedo anyway.
Also as the tyres wear down, the speedo starts to read faster anyway.

you can fix the speedo difference by just fitting a speedo adjuster between the speedo and the trans sender. Most JAY CaR places sell them. They come in KIT form, so all you have to do is solder / fit / adjust eaaaassy.

I am running 19's with mine, and have 395 : 1 gears in my diff, speedo was reading 85 for 60km's now reads 59, for 60 hence I never get busted for speeding LOL.

    Hope this helps.

I have a VY with factory 16x7 rims and the tyres are 215-60-16, they are noticably larger in diameter than the standard 15" wheels (it had one for a spare). My speedo is fairly accurate going by the radar advisory signs in Vic on the Hume Hwy. You could use any size and recalibrate the speedo which can be done withthe trip computer controils, it's in the owners manual however my understanding it that it does not adjust the odometer.
