hey guys. i have 2 change a thrmostat on a vz .wow its in a bad spot . what is the easiest way 2 get it some
gearbox out some say remove heaps of stuff plz help me out.
changed my thermostat yesterday...
was noticing the water level in my overlow bottle would always be full, and id be topping up the engine, even tho the car wasnt getting hot according to the guage, (not even on the 3rd line)
waited for the car to be cold
drained the coolant from the tap on the passenger side bottom of the radiator
i pulled the upper and lower intake manifold off, sitting the lower manifold aside so i didnt need to disconnect fuel lines
disconnected the heater hoses near the brake booster.
disconnested the steel coolant hose from the thermostat housing near the brake booster , (13mm socket)
disconnected and pushed aside the heater hoses from the thermostat housing at the rear of the motor, 2 bolts (10mm socket) found it to be earier getting at it from under the car with both arms reaching around the gbox.
then 3 more bolts to remove the housing, 1 bolt is easier to get from underneath, the other 2 bolts from up top
remove the housing from the car - careful with the stainless gasket...
tested the old thermostat in a saucepan on the stove, it didnt open even when water was boiling...
install of the thermostat is easy into the housing with the installation tube supplied.
tested the new thermostat in a saucepan on the stove, it opened before the water was boiling...
install of the housing is the reverse of removal
took about 4hours in total
thermostat cost $39 from autobarn tridon brand, TT479180p
