had heaps of questions... but please note this isnt a job that can be "attacked over the weekend" - it is an extensive modification and expensive if you get it wrong
so basically the simple explanation what i do is cut open the underside where the manifold splits give it a good smooth out and weld in a peice of sheet aluminium then open up the throttle and ports...
- this is so very critical!... *if not set up flat and square the bolts will be sitting at an angle to the the threads in the heads and a chance of stripping the threads in the heads, if not set up flat the intake manifold will look crooked, either tb sitting high/low or either sides sitting high or lower than the other*
- use 4 and 5inch grinder to remove inner walls of intake manifold.
- use die grinder to smooth out the inside and remove excess material.
- cut and shape aluminium sheet metal to ensure clearances and minimal to no gaps for welding.
- prep cast edges for welding.
- give to mate to weld ( i can weld stainless but not aluminium over 100 amps).
- hone out tb bore and smooth casting marks with die grinder.
- hone out intake ports and smooth out casting marks with die grinder.
- check tb flange for flatness. machine if necessary
- machine intake port flange flat and square
once finished the manifold should fit like a stock item and look like a stock item
- clean intake manifold
- paint or get coated if wanted
im not going to go into more detail than that and im not going to do a step by step guide as this isnt a job that can be "attacked over the weekend" - it is an extensive modification
havent had them dyno tested yet, but ask dave aka impulsive what he thinks of it..
can modify yours on an exchange basis if your interested...
havent got any dyno results as there are only 2 modded ones around atm. the 190 one on my car and the one on impulsive's - he has the 175 "wonder if this will work" on atm lol
these arent the same as the CPR, the CPR are huge in comparison, these are a standard manifold therefore standard size, therefore no tune needed. also a stock fitment.
i no way claim these will have the gain as Phils CPR manifold as these are currently untested...
can work a $$ deal if you get before and after results...

im still not quite sure where to weld the sheet metal. i havent yet taken it off but when i do should i know where to put it?
Mate if you are still interested i can possibly get a Before and After, just hope you havent cut into mine yetother wise we need another test car !!

added to the original post...
but please note "it is an extensive modification and expensive if you get it wrong"
im not going to go into more detail of the actual modifications - im not going to be blamed if someone stuffs up... but guarantee the work i do
I would volunteer... Unfortunately I am in Sydney.Great work with the research guys. Hope you make some coin out of it.
Wouldnt hurt making some $$$ along the way. Good one guys.![]()
any pics of the manifold off the car being modified?

2009 VE SS SILVER SEDAN - Twin Amps... Tune in progress (more for response and power) then outright KW on a dyno

im confident if you understand what this type of modification involves, how to go about it, and what you want to achieve... you would be able to work out what needs to be done... im not writing a guide...
if you post up pics on what you have done and need help on what to do next then ill be happy to give some advice...
i am keen to become the test car, if you havent done mine yet mate!
another pic taken today
gloss is from a fresh coat of paint...
the 4 ribs on top are sharper now... tomorrow hopefully paint the ribs matt black then put the badge on and refit to car
Looking Good mate.. Cant wait till you can get my manifold done.. Black and Blue it gonna look tops!

the underside... the pic everyone wants...
welded by damo aka commotion
Any update?Have you put this back on yet? I know its been only over a week, but do you also have any plans to Dyno your car?
the modded manifold is back on my car... impulsive still has the 175 trial version...
he is away with army for the next 3 weeks...
Any chance of a pic before the mod and after so we can tell the differance?...

Thanx for that now it all makes sence......
Have you noticed much of a difference?.
huge.
for those that wonder...

package deal when buying both at the same time![]()
