Whats the best why i can get my sv6 to sound like a v8, im not looking to get more power just a better sound. i dont want to spend heaps on it either
And im a p plater so it not sure what i can and cant do
Mate, I know the effect you want, but trying to make a 6 sound like an 8? Each engine configuration has a unique noise. A v6 will never sound like a v8. That deep burble that a v8 makes comes from 2 cylinders firing at the same time on each power stroke. A v6 can't do that and hence, sounds different. If you want, you could do the exhaust, but that will only give you the nice v6 crackle you hear on some ricers. The 3.6L alloytec will never sound like a v8 even if you tried.
Agreed with above, but a lukey straight through with 2 and a half inch piping will sound nice and rumbly..... for a v6
i just had an xforce dual 2.5 inch put on my vz calais (which also has the alloytec 190) with rear mufflers and now people think its an eight. i am very happy with it. i didnt like it at first and then someone told me to reset the ecu so it can re calibrate itself then it was great. i paid $300 fitted with staino tips.

still would like to know what, 'resetting' the ECU will do to the sound/performance of a cat back exhaust

Get a 8 and that will solve ya probs
As others have said you will never get a v6 to sound like an v8 esp the alloytec it sounds real tinny and like a 4 pot with an exhuast, best thing to do is just save heaps dont spend much on ur current car. Once ur off ur p's you can then get a 8, thats what im doing end of this year.
Before i reset the ecu the car wasnt running good, the exhaust sounded shit and i was overall very dissapionted. i was then told off the exhaust shop that the ecu needed to reprogram itself which would probably take around two weeks. but instead of waiting i did some research on here and found that resetting your ecu by disconnecting it from the power supply for about 10 min should solve the problem. instead of disconnecting the negative terminal and possibly have to put the code ( which i dont have ) into my stock radio i removed the fuse in the engine bay fuse box waited 10 min and put it back in. after i did that the car ran smoother and idled better aswell and the difference in the sound was huge, it no longer sounded like a fart in a tin can. it just helped the ecu adjust quicker to the free flowing exhaust ... trust me if it wasnt against the law for p platers to drive V8's i wouldve brought a clubby.
