The standard one you buy from Holden or Ryco equivalent however it's up to you if you want to pay a lot for a K&N and then have to clean and oil it for no real gain. Cost of a K&N would cover genuine air cleaners probably longer than you will keep the car unles you drive through a lot of dust.

the standard air cleaners are good air cleaners better than pods if you ask me I'd leave it the way it is.

I wouldnt bother with the pod, there heat traps.

Do a search for 2 Hole mod. All it involves is cutting a second hole in ur airbox.

BMC. $10 more expensive than the K&N form Autobarn, but better flow properties. And yes, definately do the 2 hole mod
I just love the way other motorists on the highway think it's an unmarked cop car.........

And Yes, it is a manual

there are a few tests out there that show the amount of crap going thru the filter and into your engine... just a get a genuine one - they flow well and filter out most of the crap

looking to replace my panel filter as well, seeing as though i havent done so since those hectic dust storms last year, whats the rough price on a gmh or ryco replacement?

also, do you guys clean your maf sensors when cleaning/replacing air filters and if so, what do you use?

Don't put a pod in. it'll just suck hot air in from the engine bay and not really do much in terms of performance. Plus, they look silly. Just whack a K&N panel filter in the origional air box for a bit more grunt and noise.

looking at doing the 2 hole mod and putting in k&n filter aswell.....just curious though, with the 2 hole mod, without the second pipe (meaning just cutting the hole) does it suck in hot air. and do your really need to get a monaro thingo or can you do without it. ive read alot of those posts and wasnt too clear. and so the k&n filter gives it a bit more noise?

Oiled filters are not worth the effort IMO. Any increase in flow is negligible (you're lucky to get an extra 2rwkw), they filter a lot worse then the standard paper filters, and the oil can play havok with your MAF. This is why you don't see oiled filters standard on many cars if any.

Two hole mod also has negligible increase in flow but does make more induction noise which may or may not be what you are looking for.

Stick to the standard paper filter, clean it with compressed air regularly and replace it every 12 months, or less if you drive on dusty roads.

Less or more if driving on dusty roads? im pretty sure you mean more, as in more regulary (every 3 weeks)
AFAIK the 2 Hole mod has found to be the most beneficial of all CAI. If only we could get mafless!

fitted the k&n filter about 4 hours ago. havent really noticed any difference. maybe a bit at 3 grand but yeah...nothing to rave about. i didnt clean the maf sensor though. does that matter? and i still thinking of doing the 2 hole mod but dont want to cut the box up. can you just get away with removing the snorkal? does that have the same affect?

If you aren't keen on cutting up the air box, get yourself a second hand one or one from Holden. Seriously, I'm not a tradie but I did this one Saturday morning pretty easily.
I wrote a how to for it and you can see its pretty easy. One thing I will add, if you decide to add the MCAI, it will need trimming, and I have those details on the how to also.

Back to the filter, I've got a K&N and while its a pain to clean it, when you don't over oil it, leave it overnight in the shed to settle, and stick it in your own customised air box on a crisp sunday morning and you give it a bootful on the open road and hear that induction roar, its worth it.

yeah lad, might have to do it down the track. not in any great rush to get it done. but from what i hear its well worth it. have you got a vid of your car with it on it for the sound? and nice write up by theway lad, looks fairly straight forward.
