In my journey to find information on how to connect an piod to the stock headunit, i came across this link, which is an easy DIY Aux input.
GTO Hard Wire Tutorial
I myself have performed this mod and it does work 100%. I also take no credit performed for the procedure, all credit goes to the guy in the link.
NOTE. you do not need a blank cd, any audio cd works, the aux input overrides the cd music
Mate ASR do that same mod, PM Preddy.
Its also looks much neater than that & is the ASR version is made to look like its factory fitted.

yea ive seen their website, and will deffinately be getting the preouts done when i get cash. this link was more for the people who dont have enough cash on hand and are pretty confident with soldering.
completed the work and now it is working like a charm. quality is perfect
thanks to http://thelug.com/radio/gtoradio.html for tutorial
ha yea i saw that thread, thats where i got the link from.
your right, it does look budget,
do yourself a favour and listen to a system with greg's ASR setup, nothing but quality
haha yea. when are they comming back up to QLD? would like to see and hear their system. cant say if this way induces any distortion though, as i still have the stock speakers. when i replace them all and hook them up to my amp i guess then i will tell if there is much distortion. but for the cost of doing this mod (free in my case as i had a cable), its a lot better than an fm transmitter.
it costs nutting. Well to be very frank first i thought of ASR mod , I called him and sent him email no reply. Then I thought lets do it ourself and found this handy tutorial. I did some modification. I did soldiering inner side to no damage done the factory unit no cutting of the box. All we do is soldier 2 wire to the chip and works great. I got sony xplod amp and woofer no distortion at all . Not a bad deal for free
yea, my thoughts exactly. except i didnt contact anyone lol. if you have the money to get the ASR mod, then go for it! as for mine, i may drill a hole in the little button next to the traction control button and put in a female AUX plug. that way if i dont want any cables running all over the place i can simply unplug it and put it in the console.
later on down the track i will contact Phreddy and get the preouts done.

emailed him wayyyyyy toooo busy.
There is a sticky on the vy page, maybe this could join the list on the vz page?
i just did this this arvo, did the blank cd thing and i have only ot tunes comin out of one side damn, and i cant get the stupid head unit out again. argh.
anyone had this problem?
Looks ghetto. ASR's mod is way more advanced then this. The input/outputs are fully protected so you can't damage the headunit by plugging a dodgy device in. It's a small price to pay when your headunit costs over $300 to replace.
there is no dodgy deviced plugged u just connect 2 wires to head unit .
and what if your iPod/whatever overvolts/shorts the headunit? it will damage it because it doesn't have any protection circuitry as it is not designed for an external input. With ASR's mod the worst that can happen is you damage the ASR PCB.
this mod is quite convenient in my opinion,
in my case i was going to buy a middle range head unit anyways, that way i can have the access to install sub and amp, and so on.
and right now its working a charm and if worse goes to worse i can go ahead and purchase another head unit anyways, but cheers on the find.
Did you use a stereo cable? And did you solder the left, right and the ground cables correctly? Mine works with no problem.
yeh one of my solder joints actuallycame loose, it was easy to fix just getting the head unit out again was a pain in the arse,
Gimme the ASR version over this anyday!

why go the budget option when it looks like a POS, you have to have a blank cd running for it to work and theres the possibility of messing up your headunit, well worth paying for the ASR version (which is exactly what ill be doing when hes in brissie next)
The Blue One
totally understand.
with the first comment, this mod does work 100% IF done correctly, but thats the same with any mod, if done correctly it will work.
and the second, i guess it could look like a POS if you dont do it properly, but there are ways to make it look professional. i tried using a regular cd while using my ipod thinking it will be garbled, but the ipod overrides the cd music, like the speaker phones at woolies and coles.
Hell if i had the money i would get the ASR version done any day and i will when i get the cash up. but in the mean time, this mod works perfect enough for me to enjoy my IPod while i save up my money to get the whole dash lighting and stereo mods done in one lot.
