Hi Guys,
Only just signed up for the forum, some really handy information on here so thanks all round. I did have a search for the answer I need before posting, but couldn't find and clear answer so here I go.
I have a '06 SVZ V6 and want to change my diff over to LSD. Got a stage 2 shift kit, pacemaker headers, high flow cats/full exhaust system, growler cold air intake and when I flatten it and just get one leg spinning and don't go anywhere too fast, it makes me sad LOL.
Been looking at diff centres so it's just a drop out and bolt in situation. I've been lead to believe this is the case. Found a few diff centres around and about from VY SS or R8s - will these fit mine?
I'm not a mechanic so try your best not to crucify me.
have to adjust backlash ect, you can whack the centre in and drive, but itl break pretty soon, re shim it ect, i did this in fathers hilux diff lasted 2-3 months and shedded every tooth on both gears, take the centre out, tow it to a shop ad get it adjusted, the piece it together urself, so it will be cheap, if not, find out how to re shim it
Well, my mechanic was going to do it all for me, pretty well anything (be it technology or mechanical) if I tinker with it, they have a habit of not working anymore LOL And he said when he installs it, he'd be fixing all that up (something about shimming or re-shimming or replacing it) cos it can be dodgey apparently if you don't. So, I guess I'm asking, if I buy say the diff centre with the 3.46 ratio I want out of an R8 maloo VY will it bolt on to my car (being a V6)
Yes they are interchangable but the problem is that to get the side carrier bearings out to renew the outers is very hard without the right puller , also the inner bearings are very hard to get off the LSD centre itself. If you're a novice dont attempt it , buy a complete LSD off Ebay , 3.45's are dearer as they are in demand . 3.07's are more plentiful. ...
