The LS motors are known to have oil consumption issues and piston slap on the earlier ones. Other then that look out for the normal things like signs of it being in an accident, oil leaks, ANY signs of a hard life ect ect. Getting one without any mods can be a good sign that it has not been driven hard, even better if you can get it off an older person or lady who is a one owner. Hope this helps a bit.

An SS badge on the back, V8 under the bonnet and a price ticket to match.

I wouldnt be too concerned with fuel economy, mines tuned and i get 11litres round town. Oil consumption issues were cured before the vz. Have u thought about the 5.7 or the 6 litre? Personally i think the 6 litre VZs are way overpriced, you can step into a VE for what people are asking for them.
As said above, check all the usual things you would when buying any car. Buying one without mods is probly a bonus. If it hasnt had a clutch in it yet, probly think about that later down the track, stock clutches are shit. Thats all i can think of mate.

Check the diff too for a hard life (backlash/clunks, whines/noises around corners, stopping starting etc)
    Suspension/steering
    Service history (oil changes/log books)
