tranny whine

My SV6 ute has a distinctive high pitched whine when taking off, only lasts till about 15-20km/h but changes with the engine revs/gear change etc. Appears a high speed whine, I reckon its in the transmission but could be diff... doesnt appear to be engine related as doesnt do it in neutral. And only in drive, not reverse. I have heard the same noise in other commodores and falcons, but my last ute did not have it (identical year/km's and specs...) Any suggestions?

It's just so much louder than usual. I've driven commodores for the last 7 years both personal and work related and haven't come across it so loud/distinctive. Possible it just needs a service?
