Default Exhaust Options for a VZ SV6

Just picked up my VZ sv6 today got it for 14,000 which was a bargin, it's a nice red perfect interior and the
body is in amazing condition, Owned by a Panel beater whom was selling it with a desperate sale! Its all stock
at the moment. I'm wanting to put a Custom Exhaust on it but have no idea where to really head! Should i
just put on a muffler and tip or get the whole system done? Willing to spend around 600 if i have to 1,000,
still on Red p plates too. Wanting it to be loud and a nice sound for minimal cost!

    Cheers for your input

Just find a second hand gen 3 v8 system and remove the rear resonator , on p plates the exhaust still looks stock as the mufflers have the Holden sign printed on them , they are 2.25 inch dual so it's slightly bigger all the way thru instead of the factory 2inch dual into single 2.5 inch after the mufflers and it's louder and doesn't loose back pressure , I did that with my sv6 auto when I was on red p plates and got 2 100 CPI cats put in and found a growler cai kit for a v8 vz for $50 on the net and made the car a rear improvement on fuel economy plus louder. The gen 3 exhaust can be found cheap second hand from an exhaust shop for like $150-$200 or even eBay and is better than spending big $$$ on a new exhaust that does the same thing ... Hope that helps

I'm a green plate so I'm under the same setup, the rules for exhausts on p's are the same as general, at least in qld. Look for a fella called not_an_Abba_fan he sells a pretty sweet setup, its a manta twin 2.25 into single 3".

I've got my own custom half cheapo setup. Pacemaker extractors, 100 cell cats, crush bent 2.5" pipe, single straight through muffler with extra detachable small rear muffler. Don't get yours made at an exhaust shop.

Isn't 3 inch over kill and loose power or drone ? My setup with the gen 3 system has no drone and no tinny sound and I'm a green p plater ,I don't have extractors though but I get better fuel rating and it's increased power alot ,iv lined up 5.7 v8's and stuck by there rear doors not sure how long the stretch of road was though and mines auto but thought that was good just for an exhaust system growled cai and manifold insulators pushing 20 inch wheels...

Almost any setup will increase fuel economy.

Wow, more response almost 18 months after the original question was asked.

    Thanks for the recommendations though.

The 2 1/4" twin into 3" single is probably the best system for the VZ alloytecs so far. Off the shelf anyway.

Your the one who bought a v6, an alloytec v6. Now you have to suffer the consequences.

You will never get an alloytec to sound the way you want, I learnt my lesson.

Exhaust note is also purely subjective. What you may think is crap, everyone else may like. Each individual has a different opinion on what they think sounds good.

The Alloytec will never sound like a Buick or Ecotec, but they can sound good in their own right.

pm me with your number and i will send you a clip of mine with the exhaust (it still hasnt been cut down) to show you what it sounds like. Personally i love it and everyone who has either stood outside the car while ive driven it or sat in it has commented on the note and they love it.

I'm happy with mine and the note , just curious what the 3 inch sounds like .... Iv heard others and nothing sounds as nice as I have mine ATM ....i don't like the sound coz it sounds like every other v6 or online 6 that drones and is loud but has no guts .... Obviously if I wanted a meaner sound I would get a v8 but I'm restricted so that will have to wait ...

It's probably not worth trying. Once you have an exhaust you like, stay with it. But it may be worth getting extractors if anything, when I got mine I noticed the rumble in the exhaust note straight away. I can't really say I felt a surge in power. But it does accelerate faster.

I want to get extractors but the price for Lil gains aint worth it to me and also fiddling around to get the cats redone coz they apparently hang lower ,iv lowered mine but the 20 inch wheels just stop the exhaust from hittin on speed humps as it is .... My fuel rating is good using 6.8 L per 100kms on freeway and sits around 8-10 L per 100 kms around city and it's the 5 speed auto ....the exhaust note is good and I'm happy with it so I don't think I'll get extractors on mine , wouldn't mind looking at diff gears though which I know will affect my fuel economy ...

I do the extractors that keep the cats up in their original position, $435 shipped for those.

Technically the 20" have nothing to do with your ride height. And I've got the same, 20" lowered, no problems. The extractors are worth it if you can get them put in at the right price. My pacemakers were $650, but I've seen a few cheap ones for $350. But not Abbas setup is usually pretty good.

Remember the tune will be around $800. I was going to do the same thing untill I heard the price.

But after a few months I'm gunna do it, its too gutless down low, and I'm getting bored of the power. Time for an $800 tune.

Maybe next tax return I mite get extractors ....as much as I love my car as it's the maddest colour ( turismo blue ) sitting on ve gts 20's and got it next to nothing with really low kms I'm probably gonna sell it and get a Ss or a ute if all works to plan .... Beleive it or not but if I put my stock sv6 wheels back on I scrub on speed humps and stuff ... I got lowered springs in mine which brought it down another 1 1/2 -2 inch's .... When I first got the car I was on my red p's so I tried making it look neat and doing basic mods to get it quicker but I went the wrong path with it coz I'm into alot of outdoor activitys now so boot full of camping gear and eskys and 2 kayaks on the roof with fishing rods and a husky cross Malamute in the back and the arss end sits pretty low .... Car looked like a mini suv with Towbar and crewman nudge bar and ugly ass roof racks on it , only just took it all off to wash it hehe

I have a 2 1/4 inch ute exhaust sittin in my garage , it's all black even the mufflers so not sure what brand it is , bolted the whole section on my car tonite even though it's longer just too c if the mufflers would be any different in note to the stock v8 ones I have on my car now , it sounds pretty good but too much stuffing around to get it to fit my sv6 ... I'm guessing it's a redback system or sumthing ,all I know is it came off a v8 ute at my mates work and the owner said to scrap it , just missing the rear resanoter and tips anyone interested in it can pm me for it

My system uses redback mufflers but the piping is a custom 2.5" single catback. It sounds great (Better then most of the ones on you tube) with very little drone on the freeway revving at 2350rpm with diff gears.
