    Default Oils

ok, so im pretty confident i've got an open diff in my ute...if i put a 85w-140 oil in it, does it matter if it's a limited slip oil or not?...does anyone know if the nulon 75w-90 synthetic oil is any good for my 6 speed gearbox?

    cheers guys

85W-140 is fine for the diff, but you need to find out if its LSD or not as LSD have a 100ml additive that needs to go in as well (I believe part number 92145121 from Holden ... or its called Sturaco 7098). Also make sure the oil is Synthetic, for some reason official Holden paperwork says V6 engines with manual or 5 speed auto need synthetic diff oil. Doesn't hurt to chuck it in LSD or not, I've got synthetic in mine and its just a single pegger.

Yes Nulon 75W-90 is fine for the 6 speed manual box

yea, all oil in my car is synthetic, im pretty sure it's a slippery diff, i mean like..it's the poverty pack ute, plus it will spin one wheel..more then the other if i drop a lil burnout on grass or something...i tried to jack the car up to see what ways the wheels turn to determine if its an lsd or not...seeing as though im not very well equipped, i was only using the scissor jacks that came with the car....i was jacking up the second side of the car, then my idiot mate thought he'd sit on the front of the car, then it just rolled on the jacks..so i couldn't be stuffed to rejack the car up again haha...what oil do you have in ur car torquative? (brand, viscosity etc) thanks champ

LSD's will have a tag hanging off the filler plug, although this is easily taken off and not put back on if the oils been drained before so its not the best way to tell. I'd be double checking based off the info on the diff, if your gonna do it might as well do it properly!

I'll have a look at what oil the diff was, we used Nulon but we were also servicing 3 cars at the time, a VX wagon, VZ Calais LSD and VZ Acclaim non LSD. Obviously with mine being Auto the gearbox oil wont help ya!

yea i have the tag, it says something like, high performance use approved lubricant only, or something like that, no mention of an LSD...umm, the label on the diff doesn't tell me much, theres numbers that don't seem to mean anythign to mean..the only thing i understand is it's a 2.87:1 haha, just say it is a single pegger, would LS oil still be ok?

I have a question so i may as well use this thread. Im getting some chattering while turning in my VZ SV6. I know Holden have that 100ml of additive but i read in another thread that the additive is included in the Penrite sin 80 diff oil, is this correct?

if you have a look at the diff again (sorry I should've mentioned this earlier) there are some BIG letters printed on the label.

2.87:1 ratio will have either AZ, BB or BC.

AZ and BB are NON LSD (AZ is non slip without ABS, and BB is non slip with ABS), BC is an LSD. This will ultimately confirm what diff you have

Also I used the Nulon 85-140 Heavy Duty Synthetic LSD oil in mine, its in a gold bottle.

Paul, I'd be checking with Penrite. The additive is to thicken the oil in LSD's, so they may have already got the oil viscosity right in that particular oil.

okay then, so we know for sure yours is non LSD and you now know the ratio!

Ive used that Nulon LSD stuff in my non LSD for the past 18 months, in that time its done a track day where it got thrashed in 38 degree temps all day. Its also done a skid pan day and had a couple of open runs, and done somewhere close to 40 000 kays. On that score so has the wagon and Calais that used the same oil, although the Wagons also done a dyno day and also has higher torque being sent to the diff due to supercharger, so between us we've all thrashed the diffs with that oil in. The LSD's use the same oil, except you need the additive to thicken it, but in your case you don't need to worry so yes, its fine.
