I have a VZ Berlian and don't like the 16" wheels, I want to change the wheels to some other type of holden wheels in 17". Don't want go any bigger as I don't want to lower the car, been there done that. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so if it raise the car at all?
i haven't done it, but with the raising issue, im pretty sure you can only change ur TYRE outside diameter by +/- 20 mm, i could be wrong, but i think that's what it is, if you put 17's on, its sorta depending on ur choice of tyre, when you look at tyre dimensions for a 17 inch compared to what's on ur 16 inch tyre you can work out the difference in height difference, but still, even if your tyre goes that extra 20 mm bigger it wouldn't be very noticable i reckon...sorry if this post didn't make sense haha
If Holden offered an alternative size to your 16's say 17's - 20' then so long as you comply with the tyre placard then you shouldn't have an roadworthiness problems, HOWEVER you can expect the speedometer to be out (by quite a bit). In the fatcory, when they fit different size wheels they also make allowance in the sender they install, for reading speeds etc.

Thanks for that guys, will definately be looking into the speedometer issue.
You'll be fine mate, you can fit 20" with no problems provided you have the right tyre.

yea, sweefu's right, you'll find that the bigger then rim, the thinner the sidewall is on the tyre, this is what gives you the extra uncomfortableness over lumps n bumps but that nicer handling around corners..and keeps the tyre size diameter within that +/- 20 mm
Don't forget that for each increase in rim size the cost of replacement tires goes up and the tire's life span goes down. Stick to the 16" if you are concerned about this fact.
Hey Mate, Go to this website THEWHEELDEAL.com.au - Australias best deals on tyres & wheels and you can find what tyres have the same circumference as the original and then you can make an informed decision on your choice of rim/tyre. As for myself I went 18's and the tyres are the same size as the original,I have found the the ride isn't as "plush" as it would be on 16's however the handling has improved.
i took my stock rims off and fitted genuine hbd 17" rims, no issues at all
just make sure you get the right size tyre and the speedo will hardly be affected.
mine are 235/45/17 and the speedo is apparently only out 0.6km an hour so not noticable and they fit the car without any adjustments just had to buy alloy wheel nuts.
