    Default VZ Thermostat

    Hi all.

Was just doing a flush on a vz 5.7 v8 and changed the coolant all fine, changed the thermostat put it all back together, started engine up and waited for it to heat up. It got to about 104 degrees and the thermostat was still not opening up bottom hose was still cold. I dont understand why could it be air trapped? Anyone had similar issues?

Do you know what temp the thermostat should open? All cars are different, even of the same model it can vary. Some cars get up to 110 degrees before the temp begins to fall. Did you let the car run until the thermostat opened?

Obviously you are experienced in the operation to change/flush and bleed the LS1 yeah? If so, did you do the bleeding procedure as specified by Holden and how did you do this?

Holden even have trouble with bleeding cooling systems on 6lts. My friends VZ SS 6ltr ute came back from Holden after a service and getting coolant changed and after doing 30mins of driving and then parking at a local servo, we all came out to find a pile of coolant on the ground under the car. Im unsure the exact cause. The Holden dealer I believe said it was a bleeding issue. It just pumped out all coolant from the overflow.

So even experienced (or lack of) people can have issues. I would get a hold of a service manual procedure before attempting myself.

Bit of a trick to doing these, it does in fact have air in the system. Jack the front of the ute up a bit, always helped when i did my old ss.

alright what i did was flush the whole system at all points heater radiator block, filled it wth water with NO thermostat and rand it and got rid of the water did this again and got rid of the water until it was clean. Next i filled the system up with new red coolant started it up and waited for the thermostat to open. This is the thing it didnt open at 104 and I was afraid to go any further coz it looked like it wasnt gonna open and the block was gettin ***in hot the water was starting to boil, still wasnt opening up so I havnt let it reach to 110 scared if it ***s it up lol.

Im unsure on the exact procedure so hopefully someone will shed some light on it. I haven't done a search, but have you tried a search and seen any other threads about this. Im sure others would have experienced or tried doing this?
