    Default 2006 VZ SX6 Adentra

I know the Adventra is like a commodore on steroids, and am prepared for the ribbing from True Commodore Fans. Its the 3rd GM I have bought. Ok getting to the Point, who has one and what Mods have you done to it. I have the 190KW / 5 Speed auto and am in the process of giving him a 2.5"lift, a nice 2" twin exhaust for noise, and upgrading engine chip managment. I want to try and increase KW output to 220 if I can.......
Any one got any suggestions or quality advice?
    Cheers

i got a ute...look up the 2 hole mod..or do a CAI..you can get a plenum called the cpr6...have a look..i think it's about 2 grand for up to 35 hp or something...high flow air filter...umm royal purple oil..they claim its the 10hp oil change..whether its true or not, who knows, it does provide a very high lubrication standard..not sure about the other propertie sof the oil though(cleaning, rust inhibitors, foam inhibitors etc)...have a look on the royal purple website, street commodores done a test on engine oil, it's on the site..royal purple was the best i think, be prepared to pay a shitload for it...im talking like, 20 bux a litre...umm, what else..my brains half dead atm and im half asleep..if i think of more that won't cost you rediculous amounts i will come back and post

    Hi there
Yeah at about $20 a litre and a 6.5L sump.......I think I will pass on that, but when you compare to the price of Mobil One Synthetic these days , there is not much difference. Interesting website and products though,,,does make for good reading I must say.
Yes CPR6 have looked at them, am concerned it will let in excess amounts of unwanted water. I am giving this vehicle a 2"lift, and plan on using it off road. Now do I install a safari snorkel, or a cold air intake. I know cold air intake increase the HP, but will a snorkel reduce this or increase it??
I am removing cats and mid section mufflers, and it will be a 2.5" straight system front to back, with standard rear mufflers for noise reduction.
    Cheers for the reply

isn't it illegal to have no cats in ur exhaust system?..oh, if ur taking it off road and going through the odd puddle, the 2 hole mod will definatly not be the go...depending on how much water we're talking about you could probably get away with a CAI...if we're talking large amounts of water and crossing rock bed creeks and the suck, definatly a snorkly mate, still sucks in the cold air, but might warm up a bit as it travels the distance over the tube...better be safe then sorry, wouldn't want water getting into your air filter, this can make ur engine stall if it's bad enough...we don't want that half way through crossing a creek now would we haha, aswell as maybe damaging ur MAF sensor which can send ur economy through the roof and throw out codes on the dash...anyway, cpr6 will be fine for a manifold if your willing to pay, if your car is only going to be going through abit of water, you can probably get away with a CAI system (not a 2 hole mod though)..if it's really gunna get a splash of water, go the snorkel for sure..any other questions just gimme a yell, cheers mate

I have a CX6 and I love my Adventra. I haven't had any problems with it. I haven't done any mods to it externally (except a new set of tyres) and installing genuine fog lights, but have put in a new touch screen double din system, gauge pods and an inclometer (don't ask why, I just like them). The traction on the wet is exceptional, the ride is great, the steering can get a bit heavy at times but hardly anything to complain about and the fuel consumption could be better but it's a big car. I think it's a shame they didn't do better, but it seemed like people expected too much from it i.e had to be as good off road as a landcruiser, had to have the same fuel economy as a Prius, had to have the same agility of a WRX, the interior space of a cargo ship etc etc etc. Maybe I still have some unresolved issues about it LOL

    Enjoy your Adventra.

Cheers for the reply, Please tell me,
Where and how much for the Genuine Fog Lights?, clearly GM put whats the price tag, and is it easily fitted or a pro job??
Whats this double din system ?
I am NZ based but Perths northern suburbs born and bred,,and love this rig, the trouble is getting the missus away from the steering wheel. I am in Perth in Sept and will be bringing an extra bag for car parts as in NZ unless its a HSV or Suburu, accessories are pricey or an issue to get hold of. Even a dash mat is out of the question.
I have a CPR manifold awaiting collection and a snorkel enquiry as well....
There is a shit load of H2o to worry about over here, so a airbox modification is out of the question.
Exhaust is the next thing. I am trying to take the factory 190HP to 220 Hp.
    Cheers again

    Hi Tim,

I managed to get the genuine fog lights off e-bay and paid $80 for them (second hand - I think they were off a cross trak ute). I then bought a new headlight/fog lamp switch from holden and it cost just under $70, plus I also bought the relay from Holden as well and I think that cost me $11. I fitted it all myself and it worked first time, although you need to have about 4 elbows to get everything in.

I bought a Caska Double Din DVD Stereo player with inbuilt GPS, ipod connection, bluetooth, reversing camera and optional tyre pressure monitoring system (which I bought but haven't installed yet). I actually bought it from a store in NZ and had it sent over here due to the good exchange rate.

I have a spare dash mat you can have, just pick it up when you are here in September.

I think all the VZ based Adventra's had the 5 speed factory Auto, mine has that Active Select thing which I used once and decided that was about as exciting as sticking a sharp pencil in my eye.

Oils for Adventra: I found this posted by someone else, so if you find something wrong with it, let me know.

The front diff is to the left side of the sump i believe it has a 24mm plug at the top of it, drain plug at the bottom use castrol SAF-XA oil in it, approx 800ml of oil goes in it.

Transfer case it at the back of the transmission, make sure the car is level, remove the fill plug roughly in the middle to lowerside of the transfer case, remove that, than on the front at the bottom, remove the plug there thats the drain, you have to buy the oil from holden as its an special synthestic oil, im guessing rather expenive too, its called "ESSO MTF-LT-1" you will need approx 150ml of it.

I haven't had any real issues with mine. I did have to have the front suspension tightened aparently the bolts had come loose. There was one recall regarding the transmission fluid hose clamps, but that was repaired by Holden. Mine is fitted with the heavy duty towing pack and one of the stick on heat shields came off, so I will have to replace that one day. But otherwise all else is great.

    Take care.
    Pete

    Hi Pete
Nicely written...... I thought I was going mentally insane after spending multiple hours looking for the Auto Gearbox Dip stick. Since when does GM produce a 5 speed auto where I can't check the oil!! Do you have to wait for it to finally smoke , seize and squeal and then break down 10k's from home in the pissing rain??

    Anyone got sound advice....

Default Automatic fluid leak Adventra SX6

Could someone tell me what may be causing auto fluid to be leaking from the top of the 5 speed auto transmission where it bolts onto the engine. Only occurred after my 125K service. The manifold was taken off to replace the Spark plugs. The oil is running down the housing after a trip.
