Hey guys,
When I start my car, I get this chichichichichichichichichichichi sound coming from under the hood.
It use to only be when the car is cold but now its happening all the time.
A mate told me it may have something to do with the AC belt?
Whats your opinions?
does the sound get louder or quicker as the rpm increases?
hello bro,i also have the same problem, the sound gets louder when i rpm increases. its a kind of rattling sound !!
yeah it get faster as I put my foot down. I dessagree with devil_87 though. its not a rattle. it definatly sounds like a belt?
More than likely its the serpentine belt telling you it may be time to change it out and/or one or more of the pulleys are a bit worn and could do with re-newing. If the belt looks good (no cracks or out of shape) you can quieten it down by rubbing a block of soap or wax onto both sides of the belt. But this generally only lasts a couple of days. I have heard of spraying RP7 or CRC on it to stop such noises but the mineral oils and solvents in this stuff will end up deteriorating the rubber compound of the belt quicker.
If it's 'rattling', it could be the tensioner bearing or the idler bearing that's shot. Better get onto it sooner rather than later... it could seize or collapse then you aint goin' nowhere.
trevhead62..your right on the mark..that was precisely what i was going to say..i could only just get on the computer so sorry for the late reply..but yea, rubbing a block of soap can help..i had a chirp when i started up my ute everytime, only for a split second though..i rubbed a bit of soap on there, and it went away..but not for long..then i found out it's a normal/common thing to happen with these engines...but yea..what trevhead said is spot on...jsut check the condition of ur belt and pulleys, if there's any obvious damage, give us an update if ur unsure or get it looked at/fixed straight away...as trevhead said..things such as a tensioner or idler bearing might be better off getting fixed sooner rather then later...oh btw, if it is a idler bearing it only cost my dad 50 bux on his vy to get it replaced...tensioner is easy as so it shouldn't cost much either
cheers mate
That kind of sound means not much oil ...check ur oil.... reason i say that is coz happen to me i checked the oil and was low so i added oil and voila...that sound went away in a minute.

We had some good times
thanks for all the help guys, ended up spraying a little CRC onto the serpentine belt and the sound went away instantly. Got the belt changed now and the Car is back to normal.
Geez I love the internet.
thanks again
Would be the serpentine belt.
I have 2 suggestions:
1. Perhaps you should read a thread before posting, the post right above yours is the OP saying he's solved the issue.
2. When you post something silly, there is a good chance you're going to be pulled up on it. HoldenOnn is not a moderator, but neither are you.
Cheers,
Haha fair enough. I've done that on occasion too, people feel an extra ruge to point out my mistakes in particular being a mod.
And a bit of smartarse banter is to be expected, it's a commodore forum after all... lol
Cheers mate,
