Question for you impulsive, just rung Holden about the monaro cai, and he quoted me $450 which was the whole replacement for the bottom of the air intake box. So I don't know exactly what part I'm searching for. Care to shed some light?

oh n just for the record. my mechanic who told me to buy a growler tried the mace ones n got nothing from it other then a lil sound.
he dynoed his vz with the growler n got an extra 3rwkw's at higher rpm's, like 3000+.
hoping to see similar results with mine

and in regards to the 'which cats should i get' question, be aware that if u go too smaller CPSI u will throw fault codes at ur dash constantly, cause ur O2 sensors before n after the cats will have a field day with all the emmisions ur letting through.
iv been advised when i do this to my vz, to get aprox 200-300CPSI cats, as 100's will more than likely create dramas.

^been highly advised to not waste my 300$ on the underdrive pully system. 300$ from that went to growler, money well spent!

I have the SS inductions growler kit and it's sweet. Really does give a nice sound under the bonnet and a little more go too.

    The Placebo Effect
The placebo effect is the measurable, observable, or felt improvement in health or behavior not attributable to invasive treatment that has been administered.

I trialled one years ago when i first got my commodore. was not going to pay $300 for something that does the same job any standard airbox does.

    Default 300kw+ Alloytec

I don't come on forums very much (they tend to annoy me) and rarely post at that, but good to see people are still playing with these things! Great thread you have going...

Anyway, I understand this thread is more focused on 'bang for buck' mods, but I thought i'd post up some recent developments which hopefully will highlight how much potential these things have...

This is on a 100% stock engine - we've added a turbo kit and fuel system to suit E85, currently we have seen 313rwkw on an initial tune, will continue tuning this week. There's a lot more room to move with this thing, and we anticipate 330-340rwkw, but only more time on the dyno will tell. No matter what happens I'm already happy with what we've got at the moment. Keep in mind this thing also has a 4000rpm converter... And again, this is all on a stock engine... Plan on running a number in very near future. This car has been drivable for quite some time and runs brilliantly, no significant issues to report through the entire build.

Point of this post is to highlight that these things are tough with a lot of potential, i hope you all keep tinkering to see what you can get out of them. There's a bit more info on the 'Show Your Ride' section, the link is in my sig block below if any of you are interested which has pictures/dyno printouts etc.

The standard fuel pump is fine for Na, but needs upgrading with bigger mods such as forced induction or head work. Bigger intake does help, as in the cpr6, however, no larger throttle body is available yet

Changing the diff gears will make a massive difference, that being said you don't wanna go too high as it will affect highway driving (with your car revving higher and chewing more petrol). A mini spool is fun I had one in a vh with 3:9's, for everyday driving it got annoying as I was chewing up tires all the time cause one wheel skips around corners trying to keep up with the other all the time, more noticeable when you go slow. I'd look at a LSD and some higher gears but nothing silly. Maybe some others guys on here can recommend a good ratio.

Yes, I wouldn't go spool unless a track car. LSD with 3.45 is a good combination for highway and quick acceleration. Just gears alone did knock off .2 sec down the 1/4, so an improvement.

Just wanted to ask how you got around the clearance issue with the mace insulators and CPR6 under the bonnet? Mines just touching it causing it the vibrate the bonnet resulting in a little unwanted rattle noise.
I'm forced to use the insulators because my gas injectors are in the way of where the CPR6 would usually sit.
So Iv modified the insulators to sit on the plenum around the gas injectors.
Does your bonnet have that heat proof / sound proof cloth material under it?

    Thanks.
    Dave.

    Mods on my 190 WL Caprice to date;
    SS induction growler intake,
    Pacemaker Extractors.
    Twin high flow metallic cats,
Twin 2 1/4 cat back exhaust,
    CPR6 manifold,
    Mace Insulators 12mm,
    3.9 LSD Diff gears
    20% underdrive pulley kit.
Drilled and slotted Front & Rear rotors.
I'm happy with every mod Iv done so far but the CPR6 being the best mod.

Im going to get a Dyno run soon and see what the results are but i just don't know where to get it done. Lol
    Any recommendations in Melbourne?

I'm also looking at getting it tuned but don't really wana pay $1100 i rekon around $600 is reasonable.

As I've said previously, the tunes should be at least 150 cheaper now than 900, vz requires only 2 vcm credits instead of 4. Maybe mention it to the tuner

Some good info there, I'll keep that in mind every time I get a quote for a tune.
