Hi all
Iam a long time reader, first time poster.......So its nice to join you all.
Iam hoping you can help me diagnose a couple of probs with my newly aquired ute.
I purchased a 2005, VZ SSZ Crewman (6spd man) with the alloy tray on the rear and apparantly a one tonner. (any idea how to tell?)
Since the purchase a couple of things are happening.
1. When i throw about 400kg of sand, dirt or anything in the tray, under acceleration the left rear makes a grinding/scraping noise. Not a constant grind, but sounds like its matching the rotation of the tyre. I have checked for tyre rubbing anywhere and con not see a thing. Any ideas what this could be? diff? bearings?????
2. When in first gear and taking off, a slight grind can be heard from the gearbox. Not a deep grind noise and not that loud at all, but annoys the crap out of me. Can be felt slightly through the gear knob. last for about a second until revs rise. Also happends when in 4th gear for example, revs are low and i accelerate. Normally would go into 3rd gear to get the accleration, but noticed the noise alot when revs are low and accelerating.
3. When coming to a halt and happen to be turning, a grind and shudder come through the steering wheel.
I hope you can help me in some way. Iam about to go get its 90,000km service done and what to know what to expect and what these problems could be.
Thanks again.
Nath :-)
the shifters in them were bad for vibrating in first gear, there was a fix for them but i cant remember, ill look into it.
as for the noise in the back crewmans had trouble with the springs in them and needed plates put in them.
a holden dealer should no what your talking about to get them.
thanks for the reply. If you can find the fix ill give it a go, cheers.
In regards to the springs, Iam a total noob, it has the long pieces of steel all on top of each other as the suspension set up, are these called the springs as Iam thinking springs are the coil type. cheers again buddy
Leaf Springs....thats it....DUH!!!
The front eye bushes in the springs need to be relpaced with this revised number 92148815, failing that it could be bearings in the diff
From 12/03 they revised the shifters so yours shouldn't be a problem. Not sure on that one sorry
might have an aftermarket clutch with a solid flywheel causeing a gearbox chatter, inherit problem with fitting solid flywheels, but wont cause damage, just sounds bad
