Default What do you think of Holden Dealerships?

We all love the fact we are driving an Australian made car that has proven to be an industry leader in Australia.

Every day i start my VZ i drive down the street to drop off the kids at school, get to the bank and do the shopping in my proudly built Australian car from a car maker that has built race winning monsters that place 1st,2nd and 3rd time after time. It just gives you a worm fuzzy feeling of Ozzy pride all over.

    BUT!

When you take pride position of your Holden certified second hand car and drive off the lot the question remains “Just what the hell have i bought?”

Car salesmen will tell you every time that they don’t make much money when you sign for the car, (Bull Shit) and you have the comfort that your car has warranty (Limited) and has had a full safety check (Bull Shit) before it s placed for sale next to the other 55 commodores lined up all begging for you to take them home like puppies at the pet shop. You pick the one with the shinny wet nose and the most rego even if it has over 150ks on the clock as the salesman, behind your back rubs his hands with a big commission grin, you sign and make your way over to pay for your new pet and a young lady sits you down to explain “stuff”. With her blond hair and big...........eyes offers you things you would only dream of being offered from a blond or wish you wife still did. No not that..... But things like paint protection, at $300? I’m thinking that the car is 5yo and the paint hasn’t fallen off yet, so no!. Interior protection, at $200? A can Of Scotch Guard is only $12.95 a can, I’ll do that or don’t let the kids in the car before i dust them off. Dent protection at $250? I will park it on the other side of the shopping centre car park away from the 4x4s and trolley collectors. Now the warranty is explained. If the engine blows up you pay for it and we will give you an air freshener to hang off your review mirror for free. If the brakes don’t work we will fit a louder horn @ $65.95. If a warning comes up on the dash you must bring it in under the warranty so they can hook up the advanced computer that runs full diagnostics and comes up with “NO FAULT READING” at $121.00 and told to take it to someone else to have a look at it, and your due for a service where we will change the oil and filter for $220.00 and give it a good going over inspection..... Inspection? Didn’t you do that before i took the car home? Dealerships have a reputation that you love or loath with great respect. The staff at the dealership may know cars but do they know that people need more than that. We have jobs and time is money so why do they need my car for 6 hours (my rate of pay $80 ph) to do an oil change and then charge me for anything else they should have found in their pre sale inspection.

So what did i pay for?

A car that runs fine until the little man in the dash holds up a warning sign telling me he wants to go home and i should take my credit card with me. In that respect i should be able to Wi-Fi the car into my broad band log onto a Holden server swipe my credit card in the dash and all done. A warranty that’s not worth the paper it’s written on when i had to suffer the pain of seeing my loved car being towed by a FORD (sacrilege) to the apprentice with more pimples than a McDonalds’ drive through worker to tell me nothing is wrong with it.

To answer my own question “Just what the hell have i bought?”

Answer: A Holden. A car from an Australian company who puts profit over people and gives the dealership a licence to rip you off.

Im just venting, but if you want to vent go for it.......

My rant is when people keep ranting about Holden stealerships. It's been done to death and everyone (the smart ones) know not to go to them. End rant.

Very well said. I hope that this is forwarded to every Holden dealer ship around the country and consumer affairs as well for that matter. I have bought a few Commodes from yards in Aust. I bought my last one from a Toyota Yard and had better after market service than Gm has every offered.......Work that Out?

    Again well written

Well I've got to tell you that my experience has been totally different.

I go to a large dealership that has a number of small satellite Service Centres around the place, with only a couple of staff at each. I walk in the door & the Service Manager remembers my name & that's before looking it up on the computer system.

Yes they do charge GMH set rates & yes I could do it cheaper at home myself - but I'm not big on dicking around with brakes & the like. And yes, they have on occassion 'fixed' things (mainly intermittent faults) that have re-occurred, but then they have redone the job at no charge.

I s'pose sometimes your lucky with who you get ...... maybe my experience is rare ...... but not every dealership is the same.

    P.S. No I don't work for Holden!

Not a prob. I'll send you a PM with contact details.

Don't know if they have any positions at present but its only a phone call away & 30km up the road from your neck of the woods (via M7). But no one wants to pay tolls.

What do I think of them? Shit.

But very good post, I enjoyed reading it. Maybe you could tidy it up a bit and send it as a formal letter to Holden.

Agreed but everyone needs to vent haha. I got mine from holden at parramatta merely so I could have a clear conscience when trading in my VT and failing to mention a couple of 2" rust holes in the chassis rails (Vt series 1-have heard of a few instance of it). Ended up bailing from holden with a year left on the warranty due to to many issues to list.

Although the last one was one of the best when the male receptionist told me they replaced the windscreen wipers as they were 'stuffed' with the cost of the wipers and $20 labour tacked on for good measure when I had replaced my wiper blades with genuine rubbers only a fortnight before taking it in.

Although small cost this sort of money grubbing just pisses me off and again is part of a long list of problems with them. I'm sure the management picks an item be it wiper blades or throttle body cleaners etc for the week and just target people with them.

Having worked as an apprentice at tynan motors at kirrawee its obvious that the problem is everywhere and with some of the things I witnessed there I will be happy to never return to a city dealership!

Thanks, im far from being a writer as you can tell. Sending it on to holden would be like talking on the phone to the deaf. i just wanted to have a spit. bit hard to write when a 3yo wants your attention "ALL THE TIME"
