cheers guys!
I don't know too much about exhausts, but I know the standard cats on the VZ are high-flow, and that it is recommended you replace them if you are installing extractors (according to a thread I read here, anyway). For info on back pressure, take a look here: VZ v6 exhaust system recommendations

Fitting extractors nay indeed place your cats lower under the car and yes they may scrape.
But as for having to replace them because they are not hi flow why not do the exhaust and extractors for now and replace the cats after you have scraped and possibly broken your current cats.
After all is the exhaust shop going to give you a trade in on your old cats, probably not so save a litlle money now and wait until they are broken.

thanks guys good help there,i dont wanta get hi flow but also dont wanta scrape the crap outa me cats either cheers!
I dunno mate, maybe you should get the high flow ones and stuff some steel wool down your extractors or something.
You know, to keep up the backpressure
this is my experience with alloytecs (175kw vz) and getting and exhuast system and dyno tune.
i have done quite a bit of reading thanks to this forumcheers all , and ive been out to speak to a few performance exhuast plp in melbourne, read some stuff from castle hill exhuasts in syd (would have gone there if i was in syd), and this is what ive decided to do.
firstly , im going the cat back system only, 2 1/4 (2.25) twin, . im only after torque gain, lower end, and a nice low sound to add to the growler CAI system fitted. im not after a huge , rubble sound, cause lets face it , its only a 6...and it will sound like a fart in my opinion.so im leaving extractors out(for now, for research purposes, ). im not keen on the drone they may produce, at 100-130kms, it already drones a little and will do a bit more as it is a wagon.
next..this is handy as because the hp dyno shop is next door to the exhaust specialist
i want my v6 175 alloytec tuned properly, not what holden thinks we should have ( a detuned, sometimes "slug" for "emmission/noise" reasons) im not expecting a V8 torque at the end of this "exercise", but it will improve fuel, gear shift (being auto) and produce a more noticable power gain.
any hint, tips, storys , fair negative comments about this , all welcome![]()
i see what your saying, very interesting.......lol
sorry to dig this up... How did you go with your exhaust and tune?
i still havent got it done yet sorry lol got tax money back but spent it on something better but in a month or so i will get these done!
No worries mate. Hope it all goes well and keep us in the loop
I like your logic in what you want to achieve regarding torque and noise.
So far I am thinking an ss exhaust would be the cheapest/best option for me as they are quiet, however I have read here one guy has same and has an annoying drone at cruising speed which is not what I want.
yeah hearing ya on that i dont want that either traveling on the freeway to sydney everyday at 120 average wouldnt be the best,me old lancer had 3inch cannon years ago and that was bad up and down the free way lol
Bad for you or everybody else lol... Both???
