My ute has a factory Holden LSD diff but still spins one wheel around corners. I thought a LSD was meant to fix that problem.
It makes a clunking noise when applying or backing off the throttle, and feels jerky on downshifts, even when rev matching.
I want to take it to a diff specialist but I don't know where to look. If anyone knows a good joint to work on diffs in Melbourne, that'd be awesome.
The guys at work have reccomended replacing the Holden one for a minny spool. But I want to be able to reverse park without looking like a twat.
might sound stupid, but have u got traction control on coz myn does the same its a new lsd i just put in, and my traction control is locked on:S
the car doesn't have traction control
VZ diffs are renowned for backlash (clunking) and open wheeling.
You can improve the locking action a little by flushing out the oil which contains an additive (friction modifier) which reduces chatter (the LSD grabbing during low speed turns) but also increases the slip of the LSD. Refill with normal LSD fluid that doesnt contain any friction modifier. You will notice it locks up better but it wont help the clunk.

I definately want to get the diff looked at by someone who knows a bit about them, and possibly trade it in for a reconditioned LSD. Whatever it is, it doesnt sound or feel right. And it seems to have gotten worse since i bought the car.
But please, If anyone knows a place where I can get this looked at around Melbourne, Let me know in this thread.
Yes rebuild is only option for excessive backlash in the diff.
Keep in mind though that backlash can be a combination of freeplay in the diff, shafts and tailshaft.
Generally though the diff is the main culprit, When I rebuilt mine the backlash all but disappeared.

Spinning one wheel when going around corners !!! Suggest that you might have to modify your driving style. Too much right foot. Not the fault of the diff !!
LOL are you retarded? If you're not going to address the OP's issue directly why ####ing post?! VzVzVz, the LSD in my VY is pretty similar. Can light them both up in a straight line but when winding on some lock generally only one spins. And you suck at quoting!
You're trying to drive like the previous owner did, except they have already shagged your LSD, that's why it is single spinning and clunking. The Commodore diffs are renowned for not taking abuse and you have one.
If you go and buy a reco one and just thrash it you will be back to square one. If you want something you can thrash about with then yeah, buy a minispool, but as you said, you will look like a twat and get heaps of police attention, meaning that you will have to change your diff again because they are illegal.
worn clutches, pinion backlash or driveshaft/tailshaft related issues I recon, use the Ford friction modifier its alot better.Dont ever use none in a factory LSD,its there for a reason and a very good one at that.
If you want the best diff oil that reduces noise and wear then use MAINLUBE lubricants, the beezneez.
