Geesh! Im still shaking a little. I just went down to fill up my 12 day old SV8 full of petrol ($85 later!!). I was cruz'n down the highway on my way back when a f#@k'n kangaroo just jumped straight out in front of me and stopped.![]()
I had no time to think so just swerved hard to the left into the emergency lane and then had to pull the car back inline again by swerving to the right. Now Im not sure if traction control had anything to do with it, but at 100km/h I can't even recall hearing the tyres even screech! At no stage did it feel like the car even began to slide. I can't work it out. If I was in my old VT I certainly would have lost control, even if just momentarily. (thumbs up to Holden for the stability/traction of the SV8).
But wait, theres more.... The car behind me did exactly the same thing, except when they swerved back to the right she got the car (new Ford Laser) in a 180 degree spin and ended up on the other side of the highway facing the wrong way I stopped and made sure she was ok. She was very shaken, but no damage done. It was sorta ironic, her headlights were now pointing directly at the kangaroo, which was still standing there. After a few seconds it just casually started hopped off like nothing had happened.
Anyway, Im just stocked I did not do any damage to my 12 day old baby and even more stocked that the car just completely handled the situation without a sweat.![]()
Anyone else had any close calls recently?
i have been lucky enough not to encounter a roo with my S Ute so far *touch wood* but i have had plenty of hairy moments like that with roos and i have even hit one once in my old car (1962 EK Wagon) ....
all i can say is roo's are bloody dumb ......
but i must say that i agree with the handling abilities of these new beasts, mine suprises me every so often how well it corners and stops in the wet (not trying to test it by the way)
guess it kinda says something for the FE2 suspension and the big dollar tyres
well this is more of a close encounter that was way to close, my brother wrote of his vz ute, was nice to, had 19's, and exuast, lowered,..lets just say the xr8 he was racing won
sounds like roos are a bigger problem than i thought. They are certainly are a dumb animal. Sorry to hear you were not as lucky as me Troy711. I imagine hitting a roo would cause quite a deal of damage - some of them are big buggas.
nah not much damage. just a few dents and scratches. but i still gotta pay to get it fixedworst part is the little f*ck got up and skipped away!
One wallaby at 100kph at night. Smack in the middle. One meduim roo at about 25kph. Pack of 4 going right to left and got last one. One huge roo got me in the side. All three in the country. This is what you get for living in Aus. Go up into Kowen forest at dusk and you will see mobs of a couple of hundred. Have seen them hop down Northbourne av around Civic as well.
if u dont like roos dont go on the road between tumut and talbingo, there's corpses everywhere and hundreds lining the paddocks, scary.
