well i got a pm from a guy on the forum, he gave me a site to check out, its a chip for ur cpu. but only gains around about 10kw. its just under 900bucks... do u reckon its worth it????
900 bucks and a 10kw gain from a gearbox tune?
link...
Matty,
You're after info on a tune for your 5 speed auto which seems to indicate that you've solved your earlier problem with the transmission (water in it and not having any forward power). Can I ask you what was the solution that you achieved to get the transmission fixed? And approx what did it cost.
I'm interested because I just serviced my Calais' 5 speed tranny myself at 50,000k's and it was a breeze. I can say that anyone who lets the service interval go to what GMH say (150,000k's) has to have their head examined. I'm a steady driver and have only towed a lightly loaded trailer on several occasions but the dumped tranny fluid was getting to the medium brown colour.
Replacement fluid used was DEXRON VI and the difference in changes is noticeably smoother.
One thing probably of interest to yourself and others who have the 5 speed (sealed-for-life) tranny is that to get the correct fluid level into the tranny required a top-up of in excess of 2.5 litres of fluid AFTER the initial tranny sump fill before the engine start-up after the tranny service. In other words once you've cold-filled the transmission and inserted the fill plug the engine is started and run then the fill plug is removed with the engine running and an additional 2.5 litres plus of fluid is required to top it up. After a long road run to obtain optimum temperature of the tranny fluid there was no more fluid required when the fill-plug was removed with the engine running and only a small quantity of fluid trickled out the fill hole.
hey mate, yeah i got the car back on the road. there was a tiny leak where the oil lines bypass the radiator, lost enough oil to start burning shit out. it burnt 20 clutch plates, worn the inside of the torque converter and stuffed that, stuff'd the pump and pistons in the tranny. so they replaced the torque converter, clutch plates, pump and all seals and o rings. including labour it was just under $2476 to be exact lol. betta then $3500+ for the new box fitted.
but i just dont get tha there was no signs of the box going, no slipping or random stuff happening to it, it just died. ohwell its fixed now.
and to do with the tune, people say that u should get the software updated after any kind of rebuild, im just gonna goto holden and get them to do it, its only 100bucks. but i was thinking if possible i would get a performance tune. but im not gonna worry about it now. i'll just get holden to do it, the guy i spoke to at vcm said the holden update will give it an extra 20ish HP so that will do i guess.
Powerchip Performance Software Tuning for BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche
its not a gearbox tune, its a CPU tune.
but do u think its worth it??
thats a bit of money for only approx. 10kw gain......
hahaha Piggyback ECUs fail hardcore on the alloytecs, some have been known to lose power hahaha
Life starts at 200km/h
thats just wat i got from him lol.
he reckons he gained 18kw from it...
im not gonna bother, i'm not gonna spend that kinda money on it, i wont be keeping it for too much longer.
the software update from holden will do we fine lol =)
