I need my clutch replaced, just talking to my apprentice friend, he says the job is too much of a mind f**k to tackle by myself. What are your thoughts/oppinions on this? Has anyone done a VZ clutch without a hoist or fancy workshop equipment?
Also, does anyone know of a good place to get a cheap exedy heavy duty clutch? I'm not exactly made of green.
You're in a bit of a pickle cause your car has s dual mass flywheel (DMF), which don't allow a heavy duty clutch to be fitted, unless you replace the flywheel with a rigid one. A standard, OEM replacement DMF clutch from Exedy is about $919.
If you want to replace the DMF with a single mass flywheel (SMF), then your options (including the flywheel) are the following:
- Exedy Standard clutch $1629 for the complete kit
- Exedy Heavy duty clutch $1735 for the complete kit
Clutch installation isn't rocket science, but it is very easy to stuff it up, and wreck the clutch. If it were a $200 clutch I'd say give it a crack, but I wouldn't say give it a crack when your clutches are worth as much as they are.
