ive blown a couple of H11 low beam globes on the calais and at $50-60 each im getting annoyed

    any suggestions would be appreciated
ie can i put HID inplace of the H11?
    will that solve the issue
i understand there is some grey area about the legality

They're not legal cos we don't have headlight washers and they're not auto-levelling... But you can get them and they do work nicely

HIDs will go straight in, all you need to do is drill a hole in the dust cap on the back of the light to run the extra wires. I've got HIDs in my car and they are awesome. To be totally honest, the only time you really have issues with HIDs being too bright is when idiots fit them to lights without a projector lens. If you go ahead with them just make sure you angle the beam slightly down and to the left so you don't have the beam cut directly off in an oncoming drivers view.

A cheaper alternative but not as good as HID is to modify H9 60w globes to replace the H11 55w.
They do make a difference but require you to remove a ridge in side the connector of the globe to enable the plug to fit.
A narrow sharp chisel does the job quite easily.
You can see whats needed when you look at both globes connections.

I did that when I had a VZ and it seemed to work pretty well for a cheap DIY mod.

I gave up looking for non-expensive H11s from shops and got H9s from ebay. At least if they blow they're cheap.
Did the H9 mod and made a difference. Also make sure the headlight aim is where it should be - pattern cutoff should drop 2 inches over 25 feet.
Mine was off a bit - saggy front suspension?

Question to the OP... why are they blowing? Chances are if they are blowing there is a reason for it and therefore you should resolve the issue first, otherwise there is a high chance you will have the same issue regardless of whether you have HID's installed or not.
