This is a question better directed at a quality workshop like CHE (castle hill exhaust) , Marano's (campsie) or Sam's (padstow).
    There are too many variables.
Is the lS2 out of a VZ or VE as they are different and use different computers and I believe both need the reluctor ring (on the crank) changed which has to be done by a qualified workshop as the crank needs to be removed.
This is so the engine can talk to the LS1 computer.
You are probably not going to see much change out of $10,000 for the complete job including the engine.
Personally if I was going to spend that much on an engine upgrade I would look towards an LS3 or an L98 with cam fitted (at least since the engine has to be pulled down to do the crank reluctor ring anyway).

So your not just changing from an LS1 to a LS2 you are going from a V6 to a V8.
Seriously buy another car if you really want to go V8, for the money you are going to spend you could buy a HSV or at least a good late VZ 6.0L calais and still have money left to to do some modifications.

it doesn'tatter if you are not getting the money you think your car is worth, remember if the price of HSV's comes down then so does the value of your car so it is all relative.
But if you spend all this money on your current car, in the end it is still just a modified executive model and the value will reflect that.
Sure there might be people out there that would love it modified but finding that person when you want to sell isn't easy.
I tried to sell my last car, a heavily modified supercharged VS wagon and after 4 months I eventually stripped all the performance gear of it and sold the car and all the bits separately for more than what I originally asked for the car as a whole.
The funny side to the story was that the guy who bought the car would have bought it completely modified but wasn't looking for a car at the time before I stripped it.
Good luck with what ever you decide but try and get a car with as much of the gear you want even if you a pay a little more to begin with, which is why I went for the Senator this time as it has everything I wanted and I didn't want to spend thousands trying to make something more out of a lower spec car.

Totally agree with everything you have said here. It just isn't worth to modify a car and expect to get the money you spent on it back. You may as well buy a more expensive car with everything you want in it and even though it depreciates you will generally get more back than if you were to modify a car.

totally agree with what everyone has said. Any engine conversion thats not a straight swap = $$$ + time and in the end it will just be a v8 Exec with the exact same value as any other v8 commodore. It would be different if you were fitting a v8 to a model that didnt offer it but thats going into really modified cars which i dont think is what you are after.

Have a look on carsales etc 2 of the same model cars, one with thousands spent on it get sold for amost exaclty the same price. A lot of people are very reluctant to buy anything that has been tinkered with too much.

Just get saving get what you want and when your done with it you will be a lot better off. Good luck with it
