hey guys jus have a fueal issue i want to resolve.
filled up 2day with 2km to go until empty but it only took 39L to fill up. i'm guessing VZ SS's only have a 40L tank??? and once filled it shows about 610km until empty but bout 280-310km later its empty again. now surely any fuel tank would last longer than that even if you drill a hole in it....

Inaccurate fuel gauge. Fuel tank is actually 75 litres but will read 0 distance to empty when it has only used about 50 litres. I've gone another 100kms after 0 to empty and it has still only taken 61 litres. I think it is set up like this to keep the fuel pump submerged therefore stopping it from burning out prematurely.
so is ther anyway of fixing this problem??

I believe the 3 window cluster fitted to the Calais can be calibrated by the user but otherwise there isn't a fix no.
cant you take it to holden and get the software updated
It would sound more like it's a safeguard against driving empty, not a software problem that needs updating.
You can likely get around 50km in the 'red zone' but commonsense would say plan ahead and fill up rather than take your chance. Emptying the tank in the middle of bloody nowhere is not funny.
Bravotwozero virtually nailed it re the fuel pump. I frequently drove very close to or on empty in my old car and went through 2 fuel pumps! It was explained to me (2000-2002) if you frequently drive on a totally empty tank, the fuel pump will not come out of that unscathed, worse if the car is angled and remaining petrol has drained away from the pump (e.g. NO START): it does need fuel to work, not air. Most VZs have a LOW FUEL warning on the dash display; I refill mine just below the second last (red) tick as usually I extend my travels without planning.

yes but as i said it was showing LOW FUEL with 2km to go and also i had only travelled 312km highway driving , but when i filled it up it only took 39L...... so it shoud still have 36L in it, thats one big bloody safeguard. obviously the standard fuel pump is complete shit if thats wat causes the stupid readings

Could be a bent float arm, but this is generally evident from new.
Could be a calibration or sender issue..
When mines around empty it takes 60 litres or more.... definately not a 40 litre tank, closer to 75 from memory.
Silver Certified.
mine says 12 kilometres DTE and 3 Litres remainging in the diagnostic mode but only takes 54 litres to fill up (there's still 21 litres in the tank in other words)
what would be the ultimate fix? does anyone know of any holden tech/mech on this forum??

Needs to be diagnosed to be fixed.
Unfortunate part is diagnosis isnt free, so you pay for that, then whatever parts/action is required to resolve the issue.
Basically you need to book it in to either a Holden dealership or someone that knows Holdens.
