hi all
i have a VZ and i have had a service done on it a month ago, and they changed the spark plugs and fuel filter in the service.
and since then it has been using ALOT of fuel.... there isn't any codes coming up and i don't know what to do. the work shop carnt find anything wrong with it.
if anyone could help that would be grate
how much is "alot" ?
does about 260k's to a full tank of fuel
How do you drive it? Hard all the time? Hard some of the time? Do you mostly drive flat roads no hills or hilly country with some flat roads? Changing plugs and fuel filter is more likely to improve fuel consumption (use less). Have you chamged the air filter at all. It may be the cause by restricting air flow.
simple answer is that the people that serviced it have f***** something, if it was running decent before you handed it in then you go back and say that they have screwed up, 260 out of a tank is shite (over 20 lts per 100)
yeah thats coming close to 30 litres/100 k's, take it back as soon as possible something is seriously wrong
Can you smell fuel at all? Check the fuel filter and make sure the connections arent leaking.
Silver Certified.
Is it actually using that much fuel or is just the guage inaccurate, (measure it by filling to the top, doing 100kms or so, filling it up to the top again, calculate how much fuel it used to do that 100km and get a l/100km figure).
I agree check the area around the fuel filter for leaks etc
there is no leaks and i cant smell any fuel. would the fuel pump make it use more fuel. if it didn't have enough fuel pressure
it would, but it would also lose alot of power in the process... Mainly up higher rpm, if you want to try?
check your MAF isn't dirty, or anything unplugged?
otherwise do fuel and air filters, check tyre pressures.
and if you have time, check your spark plugs, maybe they put the wrong ones or didnt fit them properly?
but do it quickly, could be something that may cause damage if unchecked
check vacuum lines and plugs, I've left a vac line off before and my (old) car sounded like a rotary!
Is there any black smoke comming out of the exhaust? Maybe when they hooked up the computer, they left it on an injector flush program. Check the exhaust and put your hand or a bit of cardboard near the exhaust outlet. If it goes black, the mixture is way too rich. Otherwise call Holden and tell them in a big manly voice to fix their f*ck ups.
Hey,
I had the same thing happen to mine, but not quite to the same extent. Mine was running fine, went in for a service, then about 1 month later it started using HEAPS of fuel. I still get about 400km to the tank, but thats still really bad. Mines a VZ wagon, and im a mummy and drive like a mummy, so its not the way its being treated. I have taken it back, they've checked it over, said couldn't find anything, checked the smoke out the exhaust, NOTHING. Checked spark plugs, fuel & air filters...... and I look after my tyres and make sure there is ALWAYS enough air in them.... If anyone has any ideas what would be causing this, please share as im at a total loss......
I GET 500ks out a VS Berlina, something aint right there, get a mechanic to check it out
The workshop saying they "can't find anything wrong with it" is just plain lazy. I'll be brutally honest with you from this side: they won't try that with me.
I can't see how spark plugs would be a culprit after they've been changed; the guys would know about alloytec requirements for these and correct assembly. So other things like air filter and the MAFS as listed in the foregoing commentary, could be suspect and worth inspection; did the workshop look at either/both? On the other hand, the engine may simply be in need of a long highway/freeway run at speed (maybe even on PULP95/98 to clean up). I would suggest an absolute fill of the tank and a run at freeway speeds over level/lightly undulating terrain to ascertain the real economy. Deriving a full to empty figure from city/suburban driving is very misleading; this sort of wandering about is heavy on any engine (typically 14 to 18L/100km) as opposed to freeway driving of around 9 to 10L/100km — which is what an vz alloytec should be returning.
Is there a strong pong at the exhaust at idle, and/or a black sooty powdering? Neither should be present in a clean engine (pipe should be spotless). If the pong is stronger as idle is increased, it's time to scrutinise the engine and preferably, call the workshop for a very thorough interrogation — or take yourself, and the car, somewhere else. You must put your foot down as high fuel consumption wastes money and after a month, you really do need the car returned to value economy.

hey guys it ended up being the fuel pump. the replaced the fuel pump now its back to normal.
what sort of consumption are you getting now?
between 650 to 700 per full tank
Just out of interest, how much did the fuel pump cost? They seem to be a pretty common problem.
wish my car got 650 700 ks out of a tank
