Have a look at this thread.

Pictures of Inside a VZ BCM

I've removed the relay from my BCM, it only affects the car lock unlock lights, alarm and hazard lights, so, it's actually not bad just not having the relay in there.

Trying to source a replacement relay, they seem really hard to find.

looking at ones to substitute, I've come up with

    picker PC517
    song chuan 861
    hongfa hfkm 012 shs(t)
    tyco V23072
    American Zettler AZ975

and a few others, but, I'm having hard time finding one. Found this, but, they are all out and postage is too much for just 1 or 2.

    SONG CHUAN | 861-2A-C-U01-12VDC | 861 Series 15 A Automotive Relay - Future Electronics

It looks like there is 27420 of V23072-C1061-A308 on this page,

    http://www.mt-system.ru/index.php?id=709#

but, I don't speak / read Russian and can't tell their minimum orders / postage costs.

Now just looking for a DPDT relay with about 130 Ohm coil resistance which will take the appropriate load.

Hi my VZ storm ute blinkers keep sticking on i've been looking on here and from what I've seen it could be the BCM it's been doing it for months and had a service but nothing was picked up. I'm in Melbourne and Lube mobile have quoted over $700 to replace it. does anyone know where I can get it either repaired (would be preferred) or replaced cheaper

    thanks

Hi Guy's I have been doing some research on the subject and it appears that the IMO SRL-1CT-SL-12VDC from Farnells could do the trick as a replacement relay at less than five dollars + postage I am going to give it a go.........................

Are you going to use it to drive a second external relay? Being spdt, there is no option to keep the left and right indicators separate, which you need to do to prevent both indicators flashing when you indicate otherwise. That's why I'm looking (without much success) for a dpdt (or dpst) relay with ~ 130 ohm resistance and 12VDC and sufficient current capacity. Lots of manufactures have these type of relays on their production line, but, they don't seem to be widely available...

I'm following this thread with great interest!

Thanks for the work you've already put into this dolsen, I've saved your pdf from the other thread and eagerly await the follow-up. Will probably tackle part 1 of the job on the weekend if I get a chance.

This is becoming a common problem with the VZ's and needs to be sorted somehow.

Anyhow... Just found this, went to the heart of the source and well found the product (i think)... Looks like it can be ordered but may have to be done through a trade! If so ill look into it further as im eagar as any Holden owner to resolve this.

Due to an apparent ever increasing requirement for BCM relay replacements (as evidenced in this forum), I too have been doing some research. I have tried emailing (late last week) an Australian supplier for the original hongfa relays used in the BCM, however they are yet to reply or even acknowledge my email. I have tried again today, however it would appear that they may not deal in retail.

I'll give it another week or so, then I'll try calling the supplier direct, to find out what the go is.

Quick question... how the hell do you remove the lower dash to access the BCM? I had a quick look this afternoon and couldn't figure out how to remove it, and have been searching the net for the last hour looking for an answer but can't find it.

It's probably really easy and obvious, and if so I'm sorry for asking a dumb question!

    Thanks

Have a look at a pdf I've attached to a post here. It's for an exec, but, should be similar for other models.
    Edit
I see you already have it - perhaps it's harder on the upper models?

    From your PDF:
"First step is to remove the lower dash, which is just above the accelerator pedal. Once
you have removed that, the BCM is located directly above the accelerator pedal."

There's no steps there to show how to actually remove the lower dash.

    Thanks,
    Shannon

Ok, I'll have to add it when I do part two..

On the exec, there's a black panel with sound deading material on the other side, it's directly above the accelerator pedal. There were a couple of press in retainers that had to be removed and then it slid out. It's just the black panel, more of a kick panel, that needs to come out, not the whole lower dash.
On the exec there is a hole that looks like a light goes in it to illuminate the kick panel, so, the calais may have a light in it.

Thanks mate that should help! It's raining at the moment though so I don't think I'll get a chance to look at it today.

A large thanks to all for this thread. Well over $900 to have the local HSV dealer replace, he did say they had to code in two new keys (is that true?) I have taken the relay out pending a suitable replacement.

Much appreciated from across the ditch.

Just an update: I have had a reply from the supplier of the Hongfa relays, as used in the BCM. I have replied to them, and am awaiting if they will quote & supply the relays to me. If everything goes to plan, I may have to get an indication of who wants relays & which ones they require.

I also sent them an email, this is the response I got...

    Dear Ray,
    Thank you for your inquiry.
Would you please kindly make a brief introduction about your esteemed company? Is it possible for you to send us your website? what is the annual qty for this product? And what is the application you want for this product? This information is very important for us before we quote a price to our new customers.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks & best regards
    Daisy.

I did reply stating that I am not a company nor do I have a website but the item is off high interest. Somehow I don't think they maufacture those relays to a non-company! I'm not giving up that easily!!!

    hmm interesting.

Yeh I agree, I dont think they sell them to non companies either. wouldnt surprise me if its a contracted agreement between them and their customers (like whoever build the BCM) to stop people like us from being able to fix the damn part, because if we cant fix it what option do we have - thats right, to buy a new one at what I am sure is a largely inflated price

I'll keep an eye on this, we may be able to use ASR Audio and Electrical (Phreddy) as our esteemed company (sounds like an old VS model!!) and come up with a valid reason for needing to order X amount of relays if they knock you back Ray.

    Just to let you know,

guitarfish Has found a source of relays that would be suitable. He brought 12 and is selling them for $20 inc postage, see this thread.

    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vz-holden-commodore-2004-2006/151284-anyone-know-where-source-bcm-relay.html

I brought one off him and will install it in the next couple of days. Once he has sold the ones he brought, he will let me know where he brought it from and I'll finish off the guide about how to fix the sticky indicator I'm writing.

Good news. I am about to order some relays tomorrow. The relays I have ordered are the hongfa ones that I identified from the BCM pic that was put up in this forum, with the following part numbers:

    1. HFKM/012SHS,
    2. HFKD/012-2ZS, and
    3. HFKDV/012-2ZST.

The supplier has confirmed that HFKDV/012-2ZS has not been manufactured for some time, and has been replaced by HFKDV/012-2ZST which has upgraded contact material.

I should have them in around 3 to 4 weeks, and after then, I will advise further details for those folk that are interested in buying some.

thats fantastic BCW, you'll do a good trade on them because thats alot easier and cheaper then replacing an entire BCM and keys!!!

    yeh that sounds typical

I'm not too sure about the 'easier' bit. Although the sourcing of the relays may have been solved (I do still have to wait for them to come in), desoldering and resoldering a multipin PCB relay on a possibly multi layered PCB with (I suspect) plated through holes, could be a seperate challenge in it's own right.

Having done micro-minature type soldering tasks in the past, the process can be daunting at the least. Using the average 'home' soldering type equipment would not be the best choice, and could cause some real collateral damage if not used extremely carefully.
