I was driving through heavy rain today and came to a flooded salt water creak that was about 30-35cms deep across the road. As I was in very heavy traffic and had no where to turn around I had to drive through it. How can I ensure that it doesn't rust underneath? I have given it a good hose down 10-15mins underneath. Should this do? I don't have any cleaning equipment as I am visiting family. Thanks!!
take it to a local carwash and give it a good soaking like you have done...
then id be getting a few cans of wd40 and go nuts spraying underneath in all the little nooks and crannies where the water could/would sit
Yes, find a car wash with a jet spray under-body detergent wash/rinse. Salt water residue is hideous: it will damage the lower radiator grill, alloy rims, brake components, handbrake guides and capstans... the list goes on. Cars belong on dry land, not in the briney.
The sooner the car is thoroughly rinsed, the better the outcome. Around where I live there are 4WDs that have been riding through the surf at Fraser Island and the ultra-expensive rims are finished; speckled, pitted and stained — the proverbial "point of no return".

Yeah as long as you give it a rinse and a good spray with WD-40 it will be fine! But as Little red VZ Go-Kart said I would give the Wheels a spray to!

I gave it a through spray underneath this arvo, I also gave the wheels a spray! I think I have unblocked a leak to that I have been looking for to :/ as there is a great big puddle of water under it! Will WD-40 do it? I was on to it with the water to rinse it out pretty quick!
My advice, hit it with some degreaser as well. Then WD-40.
Is it ok to put WD-40 on the exhaust? I have already put it on it, as it has started to rust.....
No WD-40 can be put on exhausts! I was at the Mechanics with my VZ Last week and the mechanics from Holden sprayed WD-40 all over the bottom of it including the exhaust to clean and protect it all whilst looking for a coolant leak. I use it on my Motor Bike exhaust and often clean the Exhaust of my Mazda 3 with it! Its just like degreezer but it seals and protects!

The smell of WD-40 on a hot exhaust is ... bloody awful. Ditto applying the stuff anywhere air is not circulating. Lord, I thought my brother's bad breath was the pits until the little blue and yella can came along.
Brushing extra virgin olive oil over metal offers protection too, minus the pong.![]()

Yes It does smell for a while but it dissolves pretty much straight away when the car is running!
