hey all,
2007 VZ UTE 6 Spd
i have a problem where in 4th and 5th gear, (5th most noticeable)
when under acceleration in 5th gear the car seems to make a whining wind noise which sounds like it could be the intake\induction?
it is most prominent in 5th gear accelerating beyond 80 kms
with the revs at only about 2 - 2.5
i have had it looked at by a mechanic yesterday who agrees that it shouldnt be happenning, but hes unsure to what it is aswell.
starting to wonder if it could be the plastic shroud under the bonnet vibrating? sound similar to a vibrating sound but not quite, i think its the intake. but i've checked the intake for any gaps\leaks.
but if it is vibration caused by wind\speed at 80km's +
why does it happen in 4th gear from 40-60ish +
and it doesnt do it at all in 6th.
i'm doing my head in, and want the noise gone!
anyone else had a similar problem?
cheers,
Timmo.
I have had similar noises in my crewman, what I noticed it was, was a combination of. 1) Slipping clutch, 2) Short shifting makes the engine whine, and 3) the radiator shroud vibrating, I solved the 1st with a resurface, 2nd by shifting at (atleast) 3000 and finally the 3rd, by using some heat reflective tape on the underside. (I was trying to decrease the air intake temp and it had the added bonus of stopping the vibrations).

Are ya sure its not a wine from the box ? it might be down a bit on oil and thats why ya notice it in 4th and 5th ?
cant be the G,Box.
thats already been checked and all ok.
i swear its coming from something under the hood. and it sounds like rushing air but not normal.
