Waterproofing a tray

G'day all,
im looking at putting a sub or 2 into my ute, and don't really wanna use the space behind the seats or next to the fuel tank...so im thinking 2 subs in a box in my tray.however, when it rains, behind the window it will leak just past the mounting brackets that the hard cover slides into (you know, the stainless steel ones) and go into my tray...i want to mount the sub box at the front of the tray so it doesn't slide around etc, so where the water's leaking is where i want to put the subs

so just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to seal them pretty well, i don't wanna go expensive, im considering sikaflexing obvious gaps where it could leak, and maybe somehow putting a rubber seal or something on the under side of the hard lid, so everytime it closes, it squishes on the rubber making it seal.

anyone have any other suggestions or is this my best bet?

You said it with sikaflex. If you dont want to go expensive just grab the colour of your choice, it comes in a variety, I can say for certain it comes 'Concrete Grey', 'Black', and 'White' I am reasonably certain there is more colours though.

Seal what you can from the inside then cover your sub box in some plastic (cant be too safe), then seal from the outside.
When trying to smooth the sikaflex have a rag handy, lick your finger and run it against to make a nice curve (deep rises and falls will pool water increasing the chance of leaking).

Thats the only cheap way I can think of.

have u ever heard of boot rattle? I had a 12" alpine type r sub in an alpine ported box and even though it was a single sub it would rattle the hell out of the hard lid. I ended up tightening up the locks so it wouldnt rattle and even then it would do it some times, and when you've got it turned up you can actually see the hard lid vibrate alot up and down by about 5-10mm.

As for the water problem i just a reel of sticky back rubber/foam from bunnings for $30 and went twice around the underside of the hard lid where it makes contact with the top of the tray when its closed, this helped alot with water and boot rattle.

I recently got sick of not being able to open my hard lid (always has to be locked unless u want ur sub/s stolen or u want boot rattle) so i got a box made up that goes next to the fuel tank. 45ltrs ported and tuned to 33hz, The difference is huge! absolutely crazy bass. In all honestly I'd go the extra mile and get a box that goes next to the fuel tank. defineately worth it.
