Default Memory seat module- VZ calais

Hi Everyone, in need of some of advice

Just had the car returned from holden after 3 days of diagnosis!!! basically my battery has been going completely flat and the culprit is the memory seat module which is drawing 1amp continiuously.

    replacement cost is around 700$.
    I've got 2 quetions
    1. is it possible to just disconnect the module and lose the memory function and have the seats working manually ? and
    2. if i track down a wrecker part can i just do a complete switcheroo ?

to be honest, i'b be perfectly happy with jsut disconnecting the module and saving myself the money, in doing that the current draw should stop ?

    1. spose its possible, though you might find it throws an error code.

    2. provided it's from the same car, that should be fine

it can, but you wouldn't really be clearing it as much as blocking it. The code will still be there, it just wont show up. That's as far as my knowlege of this sort of stuff goes

good enough for me ! I'm just worried the module has other functions i.e. airbags. but i don' think thats the case, my understanding is that the memory module is just responsible for the key memory and dip mirror. But the guys at holden said it will disable all manual movement in the seats also. but i honestly think they are looking for a buck, correct me if i'm wrong anyone

My module is playing up and one symptom is the seat will not recline with the manual switch. You could probably by pass this function of the module though.

You can safely disconnect the memory module and leave the seats to operate manually, but you will need to disconnect quite a few wiring connections under the driver's seat. As the memory module is not safety related, I doubt that it would bring up any error codes if it was disconnected. (Don't quote me though!)

Mine's playing up too, it just does not seem to want to work at all... Assuming mine is stuffed, it hasn't thrown any error codes and the seat still operates manually with no worries, so disconnecting it should be fine.

Foghorn, on a side note, take the seat fuse out and for 10 sec or so and put it back in. It resets the circuit, and mine does this all the time. A bit annoying when it stops moving, but the fuse trick works for mine.

Thanks Gamblr. I gave the fuse removal a shot with high hopes but made no differnce I'm afraid. I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get a module that's not going to bankrupt my cunning kit?

I found out recently that there is more than one model of module and they don't interchange. You will have to look at yours to get the specific part number before getting a replacement.

I'm in the same boat at the moment, unfortunately it doesn't look promising. There's never any single units on eBay, and most sellers aren't willing to remove the module from the seat for seperate sale. I keep trying though
Although OP, I could've sworn when they quoted mine for replacement, they gave me a figure around the $400 mark :S $700 is ridiculous

Looks like what I found may have been a manufactures number. I cant see any other holden looking numbers on it anywhere. The holden dealer could only find one part number but not sure if I can trust him. Any idea where the numbers are on the suckers? Maybe it was a sticker that has come off over time?

Yeah it was a large paper sticker on the module. I know they vary because another member on the forum needed one and I had one laying around. I posted it to him and it turned out to have a different part number and not be interchangeable. Perhaps they vary between VY and VZ?

Is the Holden price, $700 for supply or supply and fit? Might be cheaper if you just bought it from them and install it yourself? Don't know how much you'd save but it would be worth asking.

Got one from AMCAP. $350 with postage. I was a bit worried because I could only track one part number. 92148436. Fitting could have been much easier had holden not used rivet with the heads facing up! Put it in and the seat now tilts and the three seat memory positions work. PUT... the key position memory dont.
I bought two new keys a month or so back as the car only came with one and it was cracked. The keys were programmed in the shop but I read somewhere (and can't bloody find it now) that the memory only works for the first two key positions?? Anyway I asked the guy in the key shop to assign these new keys to the first two positions which he said he did. But I also read somewhere that the car computer would need to be accessed to get the key memory working. Can anyone confirm this?
The only other thing I can think of is I purchased a memory module for a VY which I understand don't have the key memory function but I think if that was the case the thing would not work at all.
