Hi guys,
new here, Im looking at getting a sv6, but im aware there are alot of commodore executives around rebadged as an sv6, how can you tell for sure which ones are real sv6 and which are rebadged? what should i look out for?
thanks
take it for a drive, the sv6 should max out at 6500rpm, the executives will max out lower than that. other than that, sv6 has paddles on the steering wheel if its an auto, the auto leaver will have P,R,N,D,4,3,L
sv6 auto is 5spd. and i fink the sv6 had fe2 suspension where as the the executives didnt. correct me if im wrong

Need your computer tuned, or dash calibrated??? Want your PS3 fixed, or wish to prevent the YLOD?
ok cool thanks,
i also heard that theres something about the engine as well? in that if it has silver on the main part its a executive? How can you tell by looking at the engine?
thanks
people really try and pass off execs as sv6's ???
Get the Vin/Chassis number and ring up a local dealer and ask them to check it for you.

Why wouldn't the paddles move WITH the wheel?
Seems like common sence.
Yeah I know it makes sense, I'm just saying that it can be a bitch to change gears when your going around a large roundabout or something.

I agree lol. Just dumbfounded. Makes the whole thing totally pointless.
It makes people think their SV6s are some sort of race car. The only purpose I can see is if you are towing some heavy trailer/caravan/etc and want to do manual shifting, especially since the 190 engine is quite gutless down low. Other than that its pointless.
First time I drove my brothers SV6 I tried the paddle shifting, first roundabout and I couldn't hit the paddle, didn't I look like a twat doing 5000rpm in 1st gear though a damn roundabout.

Never had a problem towing just using the Tbar myself. I think its more your first point :P, wank factor.
Yeah agree with wank factor. They no longer have big lumpy old-fashion V8s attracting hot girls into the front seat who lean over, so they have to resort to wank power. LOL.

the paddles do move with the steering wheel, dunno what u guys are on, but it seems good![]()
Im just going what the other dude was saying.
An executive will have a 175Kw motor and different trim, instrument cluster so it's a lot of work on top of simply changing the badges on the boot lid.
There should also be a 3 digit code on one of the compliance tags? These are for models like equip, aclaim etc so there is probably one for an SV6
I personally think steering wheel paddles should stay central on the steering column, like the indicator. That way you always know where it is, and which is which. This move with the wheel Idea is stupid.

i think the idea of paddles are annoying personally, i think it should be at the gear stick, or both, might make a custom one, one day haha
No issue having them - it's just due to their size they are a tad impractical.
Look at any European car & they have a decent sized paddle (easily accessible whilst turning the wheel) as opposed to a little button. Great add on feature .... but they could've done it better.
I don't like the idea of paddles either, I like the ones where you can move the shifter across and can flick it up or down to change gear, like the fords have.

wheels, lights, suspension, bodykit, check for LSD, the interior, manual gear box, active select, traction control, alloytec190 badge and have a look at the compliance plate. these are obvious yes, but how you can tell..
Life starts at 200km/h
The colour of the engine covers won't help much, as they changed them later on in the VZ series I believe...
A few little tricks will help you identify the SV6 from a kitted Executive. If it's a stock SV6 then wheels are alloy 17" 5 spoke, SV6 bodykit with recessed fog lights, shorter taillights with 3 circular lenses, sports mech cloth interior with slightly bulked up seats, 5 speed transmission with Active Select paddle shifters on the wheel, sports instrument cluster, colour coded exterior mirrors and rear spoiler with LED brakelight.
Look at the rear windshield, as all Commodores apart from sports models have a visible high stop light on the parcel shelf. As that is located on the spoiler in the SV6, there is no high stop light in the back window and it is blacked out around the area instead.
