Hi just wondering what people think is the best premium fuel? and where they buy it from. I have found Caltex Vortex to be one of the best with Shell V-Power a close second.
Yep, Caltex Vortex 98 in my VZ. Had to vary between 95 and 98RON and different brands last weekend in eastern country Victoria, but close to home Caltex is stock juice for the chariot.

Interesting. BP (as with Mobil) don't have a refinery in NSW and are supplied by either Shell or Caltex.
QLD - Shell & Mobil are supplied by Caltex or BP
VIC - Caltex & BP are supplied by Mobil or Shell
All import their own into Adelaide
WA - Mobil & Caltex supplied by BP or Shell
TAS - Most import their own, or supply by Caltex or Shell

A quick search reveals a plethora of fuel/premium fuel threads.
E10 100 octane from United.
2006 VZ Executive wagon, police pack mod (ex-CFA Escort car), 175 engine.
Not sure why yours can see an assumed big difference between 95 and 98 — enough for the engine to get grumpy over it?? I use either, as mentioned; whatever's available, but not that saccharine stuff at all.

I'd say when it comes to premium fuels all the different brands equivalents (95 or 98) would be exactly the same i.e. You won't notice any difference between different brands of 98 octane and you won't notice any difference between different brands of 95 octane...
In my experience in WA 98ron fuels are not all the same. My car was tuned on Ultimate98 and runs fine on that fuel. Ive tried 98ron fuels from all other brands and it pings.
Ive been told that BP guarantees that U98 will be a minimum of 98ron whereas the other brands get an average of 98ron.
Silver Certified.
Up here in cairns ive tested all the fuel/stations, all were pretty much the same, cept car didnt like starting on shell v power, and bp ultimate i got the smoothest running and most kms from, i use that in both my cars now
I'll give BP Ultimate a try now... I have always used caltex vortex no worries (simply cause it's the most convenient for me to and from work) however have recently started working on another construction site so have started using shell vortex, and I thought it was fine until you said that your car was a bit hard starting which I have actually noticed however shrugged it off as something other than the petrol... So yea I'll give the BP ultimate a run for it's money I guess!
BP Ultimate is recommended by tuner's in Mackay as it's the most stable fuel.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
I dunno
Ive been told they also have varying shelf lives due to the cleaners and chemicals in them, in that their only at their peak for so long.
Apparently Ultimate is the best but has the shortest shelf life
I use ultimate in my lawnmower haha so it sits in the tin for months, dont notice any degredation in lawn cutting performance during that time![]()
Silver Certified.
Mower engines may be more forgiving than car engines when it comes to fuel quality..
Silver Certified.
Might give BP Ultimate a decent go
It'd be interesting to know which fuel has the longest shelf life, and just how long the average shelf life is... Anyone know without me having to search for it ha?
Fuel... has a shelf life...!?
Most educational...
I got a few drops of Shell V-Power in Melbourne yesterday, but at 147.9c/litre (curiously more expensive in Melbourne than it was in Bairnsdale!) wasn't keen to go any further than $20. Still, the go-kart wasn't concerned it was from Shell rather than my usual Caltex Vortex 98...![]()
