Hey people, had VZ tray back ute for 4 weeks, 6cyl, cant get 400k's out of a tank and not floggin it?? (mainly highway driving), tried premium and not much better than E10, starts off saying 500k's to empty when full tanks and never gets close....help, suggestions, idea's, theories...
My old man has a vz one tonner, similar fueled consumption or close to it, I think it's because of the diff ratio being geared to carry heavy loads and still effects fuel when not fully loaded. But yeah hopefully that sorta helps, if not hopefully someone has a better reason.
Yo.
dont the utes have a software issue that says fuel is empty when its not? how many litres does it take to fill up when it says empty?
takes about 60 bucks max so about 50l
Cheers for that, I have found alot of different "opinions" to say the least but spoke to a dealership today and he said the ute has two sender units and one for high and one for low readings and he said one was shagged this should fix it, catch is tray has to be removed to get to it and also said recalibrating computer could help as well.
One thing for sure is no one is real confident on a fix that seems a shite load of cars and utes have, frustrating problem for otherwise great ute, but will keep going with it till I get a fix......
If the dealer continues to use the word COULD when referring to work they intend doing that you WOULD have to pay for, tell him that any such work SHOULD be at THEIR exepnse if they can't be more positive in their analyse of the problem and a 'sure-fire' fix.
I understand this is a fairly old thread but i have to say. Don't use E10, its more corrosive, it may be less expensive, but uses as much more fuel as it saves in price. Even the E10 fuel pumps from fuel stations break down far more frequently than any others.
There is something like a 20% economy penalty with that E10 fuel, and many people do wise to avoid using it for long trips. That is to say you won't get as much distance from a tank of E10 as you might, say, from PULP 95 or 98 (which is a much hotter fuel).
It's the fuel gauge calibration carried out through the dash e.g. Mode+Set functions etc.? Thought I came across this in my owner's book.

Yep mate, my 2005 VZ 1 tonne shows 1/8 th of a tank (the last red line before empty) after about 400 km - but it never takes much over 50 litres which means it's close to having nearly 1/4 of a tank in 'reserve'.....
It's annoying because I feel like I'm always filling up, but sometimes I push it a bit farther knowing I've still got a bit of fuel in the tank....
I'm averaging 600Ks every tank of Optimax (70L)

Two hole mod on the airbox worked Quite well on my vz one tonner 3.5 ecotech and gave me slightly better fuel economy
Mine does the same, on empty it only takes 38 litres to fill it up lol. Its annoying..
Guys its just a software update from holden to fix your fuel gauge problems. They plug the tech 2 in and 5 minutes later your full gauge will be normal
