Recently i have noticed especially in power mode, a very loud (now reoccurring) squeeking noise. This only happens in between gear changes and upon acceleration when the gearbox kicks back a gear and engages in higher rpm. This squeek is comming from the front end of my car, which makes me think my belt is slipping?
So today i decided to inspect my belt for ware but it's still in good condition. I then checked if the tension pulley's center bolt was tight, but it was very loose! I tightened it until it was tight (not over tight). I will see if this has fixed this squeeking noise coming from the engine bay tomorrow, fingers crossed that was the problem?
Or was the tension pulley's Center bolt meant to be loose?
mine squeals like a pig for about a minute when its cold but goes away
i no what you mean owned, got some thing happening to my belt, its when you rev it out to hard and it changes gear and then its a high pitch squeek...i would like to now how to stop it to
Check out my Svz

Yep, it looks like where on the same boat.
It's getting late, i guess we will have to wait until tomorrow for answers and suggestions![]()
Does anyone know if the tensioner pulleys center bolt have to be tight?
Please tell me it is the same as this squeek, I have been trying to work it out for so long now lol... Download squeel.wav from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way (Around the 6-7 second mark).

my ute does that exact same squeak. has been doing it since ive gotten it. would really like to know what it is
Tighten to 12 - 14nm
Idler tension pulley is prone to squeaks and squeals over time. I've been through 3 on my old V6 VP Lexcen; it's something the Techies check for during routine service.
Somebody living near me recently suggested dabbing vasoline on the drive belt (!) "to stop dem squeaks". Yeah, right! Probably stop the car, too...![]()

My bloody car does this too... Goes away if I put belt grip on the belt... So its def the belt.
Tried a new belt if the old one is slippin ?? checked to see if all the pullies are good and line up to each other ?
I tightened the tensioner pulley but the squeek is still present. Next thought i had was the 5 speed Auto "sealed for life" transmission? The oil in my 5 speed auto has not been changed for over 100k now (even though it is "sealed for life"), I'm thinking the oil might have lost all of its velocity causing the gearbox to squeek whilst changing and engaging gears causing this loud squeek noise? Do you guys think this could be the lack of maintenence on the 5 speed auto's gearbox "sealed for life" causing this problem?
A "sealed for life" auto transmission? Surely there must be an oil change and replenish ... somewhere??
I have never heard of it, perhaps only with the ancient Russian Lada runabouts where "sealed for life" meant after 30,000km you throw the thing away... Auto trannies are meant to be serviced 20-30,000k. It's a revelation that some can go 100,000k and get away with a squeak!
The idler tension pulley is bolted on fairly robustly. It's the pulley bearings that go tropo and cause either a scratching or squeaking sound, additional to any sound of the belt moving over the very smooth pulley surface. I'm sticking a smiley face on that pulley to attract the Techies so they know it should be checked for any squeak, rattle or scratch Wednesday this week.

I get this squeak 1st thing in the morning with my sv6 when i put it in reverse, and then the noise carries on for a lil in drive, just started about a month ago... I took it in for a major service and gear box service about a week ago, car runs a hell of a lot better but still got the same squeak, is this the same as what you guys are experiencing ??
Says car runs a hell of a lot better, but still got the same squeak.
It's a mouse in the engine bay.
That's it. It must be a mouse.![]()

Started the car up this morning,no funny noises at all (all day even)... Maybe the gearbox service took a couple of days to kill that mouse![]()
Ive had this problem since I had coolant spilled on my belt by holden... It seems to recur when it gets wet (with water). The best way to fix it is to spray silicone spray all over the belt and tensioner pulley. I had the belt replaced at one point which stopped the noise until the idiots spilled more coolant on it.
It's not the gear box. As I said before. Mine does it from 1st to 3rd under acceleration. I fix it by spraying some $16 belt grip on it. Once that wears off. It squeals again.
It's just a fault on the VZ series, as they arnt aligned with the alternator properly, they are like 2mm out. The VE series doesn't have this issue.

I dont think belt slip is the problem. For all the people wanting to know what this loud squeek noise actually sounds like and where its comming from, it can be heard in my car when the transmission gear 'N' is engaged. Once the tansmission 'N" gear is selected build up a little bit of rpm, (remembering to hold th rpm @ eg 2,500 rpm) then quickly place the auto gear stick selector down to 'D'. This is the same squeek noise that is present inbetween each of my gear changes upon acceleration.
Would anyone have any idea how this squeek noise can be fixed if it's comming from the transmission. Also keep in mind that i have the Alloytec 190 with the "Sealed for life" Transmission, so the transmission oil has never been changed!
Well just TRY this for me, Buy some belt grip, put it all over the belt. Then go for a drive.
Because mine makes a squeak noise, And I fix it with belt grip.
