Default GM Hydramatic 4L60-E 3rd and 4th gear slipping

Hey all, hope you can help me with this.. My car issnt a commodore but is very close as it is a 2004 WK statesman 5.7ltr and for the last 2 days now i have noticed as i go up the highway to and from work, as the box has selected 3rd or 4th a little adjustment on the accelerator and i see the rev gauge fly upto 4000rpm and does nothing with the speedo untill i let off the accel again, then it feels like a lille kick as it grabs the gear. When taking off 1st and 2nd are strong.. no slippage what so ever, as soon as it wants to select 3rd gear she just starts slippn. Anybody had this happen with there autos before? I might add that since i baught this car 3 1/2 yr ago when i boot it it revs to 6200rpm before shifting any gear even with power shift and when holding gears..Also this car has only done 91000kms and i drive like a grandad apart from the odd squirt and this happens??

The only mods this car has is extractors twin 2.5 with high flow cats and cold air with 4'maf pipe with k&n... so i should deffinetly not be over powering this tranny should i??

take it to a gearbox specialist. once in my old vr, not sure if the box is the same, it slipped really bad in 3rd/4th, to the point where it got stuck in 3rd and wouldnt come out. had to replace the box

I would say you need a rebuild, once they start slipping in 3rd and 4th(O/D) that usually means they are shot.
Being the electronic version of the 4160 they are self adjusting until the wear is too much then it is rebuild time.
My VS auto (basically the same box) only lasted 82.000klms before doing the same thing.

First thing Id be doing is checking auto trans fluid level, low fluid = not enough line pressure to change to higher gear.

Just to make sure youre aware as not everyone is, the car needs to be warmed up and running and have been through the gears a few times when checking the level.

Try half a litre then recheck.

Yeh cheers mate just as i was waiting for your reply i went down and got some dx3 and went ahead with puttin half a litre in and took for a short spin and its still the same.. The car was allready warm as we had ussed it to go to hj's prior this morning. When i got home i checked again and its spot on the dot.. So looks like im in for a rebuild, but i was doing resaarch lastnight.. apparently this is a common cause of the 3-4 clutch being worn?? i see your a holden techinitan what do you think?

Yeah if your levels are good then its going to be an internal failure of some sort unfortunately.

Do you have an approx rebuild price? Because i have always wanted a manual droped in it so if its not too much more for the 6speed, clutch + pedal mount housing and the tune, i would rather that

Im thinking an auto trans specialist would be the cheapest ring around and get some prices.

You might be lucky and get away with just a service. Just don't let it keep going get it seen to asap.

Hey mate yeh I rang your shop but I'm not really keen on rebuilding a crappy auto, I've come accross a 6sp conversion kit for 3500 so I think I will go with that as I want to put the gentt kit on in future and the auto can't handle it now let alone twin turbos and beefy cams.
