gabby is going around oz next year for 6 months by 4WD+campa. his vz (the "go~kart") will be sitting in the garage untended over that time. do you bright sparks have an idea if the car engine is ok left idle for that long or should it be used like idled now and then, if not run about? the technical man at the dealer doesn't have an answer! (nor does gabby; he is on chrissy leave to byron bay then 1770 beach).
thanx

If it is going to be left idle or unattended, then I would consider doing the following:
1. An oil change, and run the fresh oil through the engine (just in case the old oil is dirty or has acidic residue).
2. Remove the battery & leave it on a float charger if possible.
3. Consider draining the fuel tank as well, as the fuel may possibly tend to go off in the 6 month period.
Just my thoughts. Other folk may have different ideas.
What bcw61 said is pretty spot on, personally id find someone to take it for a run atleast once a week though keep it all running smooth. But aslong as it has clean oil some moisture absorbing material in the car chocks under the wheels and left out of park/gear and the handbrake off also helps.
Final thing, clean the car, wax it and throw a cover on it and it will remain as good as new.
One of my dads friends moved to England for two years for work but couldnt face selling his ve gts. So he has another close friend driving it to work once a week just to keep the fluids moving. You would damn have to trust that friend though...
Life starts at 200km/h
You can buy an additive for the fuel tank that prevents petrol from 'going off'. Probably available from a Marine/Outboard motor supplier or Auto Parts Store. All previous suggestions are appropriate however where you store it is also important. Somewhere dry with air circulation - otherwise rust could set-in.
Speaking with Gabby this afternoon, it is his preference that car does get used occasionally (1,2 a week), but by who is tricky, as Gabb is not the trusting type on face value alone (he's had big trouble before loaning cameras to people). Car is always garaged (under studio) and secure; maybe the housesitter?? he recalled that the dealer said last week he could drive it around Aust. too! , if all options fail I think he will seriously consider that, with like a small camper-trailer (he has already ridden his bike around Australia in 1984-1986 which is why the guy's got wonky knees...).
Thanx!

Car should be fine to leave. If i were you i'd be getting 4 jack stands and jacking the car up and placing it on the jack stands to get the wheels off the ground to prevent flat spots.
Another benefit of this is, if you feel the need to want the car run up every so often, you can start the car and simulate driving if you so wish by running the car through the gears, that way, the car doesnt get driven on the street by a stranger.
