Hey guys I got a issue with my gearbox, when I sit in neutral with my foot off the clutch I can hear like my gearbox, sounds like a spinnig type sound, I don't know if it's the clutch or not and when I push the clutch in it stops making the noise, any input would be appreciated, cheers...
Can you feel any vibration when you hear the noise? If so, it could be the clutch is well overdue for replacement. If there's no vibration, the input shaft bearing could've gone. Show it to a mechanic and they'll give you the right advice, just not Ultra Tune, they're shit.
Ah ok yeah I spoke some guys at a performance shop today and they reckon it's a common thing in these gearboxes but I will get them to check it when it goes in for a retune, I wouldn't be able to tell if there is any vibration cause my vz has been cammed so yeah the whole car vibrates lol
ur vz has been cammed? nice. thats a first
Yeah it's a sv8, it's running a tad under 400 at the wheels
Thrust bearing?
i've heard with the v8 gearboxes when i was working at holden that straight outta the factory there wasn't enough preload put on the bearings through out the gearbox (don't ask which ones) which cause the load on the gearbox to twist abit and and put pressure partially sideways on the bearings and ruining the bearings after a while which may create this noise your hearing...not sure how true this is, but thats what i've been told by mechanics when i worked at holden...could be bearings..just throwing it out there

I had a mechanic at a performance shop have a listen to it today and they said it's a common thing with these gearboxes, he said even new VE commodore manual gearboxes make the same sound and there isn't nothing I should be worried about
yeah my baad. some how i thought the op was talkin about a sv6. woopz
