Hi all,
I am looking at replacing my VZ Wagons headunit (blaupunkt).
I understand I need to use coathangers to get it out, but what about the security code. Where can I find this and what happens if I don't have it?
I am looking at installing this: JVC Double DIN MP3/CD Player - CD Tuners - JB Hi-Fi
But will I need one of these to make it look tidy?
VY-VZ Commodore FULL KIT dash facia fascia harness GREY (eBay item 260669045335 end time 24-Dec-10 20:18:26 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
What would you do? Go double din or single din (with fascia compartment thingy)?
Cheers,
Jess.
you'll need something stronger the coat hanger wire. Ive tried to remove several VY and VZ head units over the years and not once have I been able to do it with coathanger. Theres tools on ebay now for less then 20 bucks, that'd be my first tip
Code is either with your books on a card, or you'll have to contact Holden and get them to get it off their system. Some dealerships will do it free, others charge you saying "they get charged to use the system" which is a load of BS
Sometimes your lucky, the BCM will remember the radio and wont ask for a code, but they can "forget"
If I do not intend to put the original blaupunkt back in I will not need the code though will i?
na u will not need the code, unless u sell it to someone else

Funny I used a coat hanger 3 times to get my headunit in and out... Just need to bend it into the tool looking things. Then a small flat blade got it out fine.
You won't need the code as its just for your stock unit. If you bought someone elses unit, You would need their code.
depends on how your doing it. I receive a number of messages through ASR with people asking how we pull the head units out because they tried the coat hanger method and it didn't work. Plus once the HU's been out once it becomes easier to remove thereafterFunny I used a coat hanger 3 times to get my headunit in and out
I can get it out with nothing more then some nails (as in hammer and nails) but for a first timer who thinks its as easy as just shoving some coat hanger wire into the holes, applying pressure and pulling back it can be a different story.
the BCM does remember the PIN which is why you can pull it out, put it back, and it wont ask. I cant remember what the parameters are before it loses it and you have to enter it though, but if you were to go out now, pull it out, bring it inside, clean it, admire it, use it as a paperweight, then go out shove it back in its hole it shouldn't ask you for the PIN. Ideally though your best of getting the PIN and even just writing it on the top.
