Hey guys, new to forum and new to how-to's.
I'm looking to tint my back tail lights and know the process of how to do this, the one thing that has me stumped before I even started is how to remove the tail lights haha, if anyone experienced in this knows any tips or tricks i'd love some, cheers
hey mate,
haven't had a go at this myself yet but i just bought some calais light to put in my lumina so ill have to figure out pretty soon also haha.
I'd imagine you'd unscrew them from the boot? just lift the carpet out of the way and see what you can find.
Mate it is a very simple pricess. Cant exactly remember as it was long ago, but i installed calais tail light. From memory the first thing is to move the boot lining out of the waythat covers tthe area behind the lights. Then you should notice about 3-4 black plasticn screws. Take them off and tailight should pop out. After this step you would need to unscrew the light bulb and wiring, which you should figure if you have a good look. Also remember to have a towel or somethibg to place the bulbs on while they are hanging. Their nay be more screws holding the lights in but cant exactly remember. Hope i helped
Sorry for the shocking grammar, i rushed it during my break and on an iphone aswell haha
be aware that "tinting" or spray painting your tail lights is highly illegal, and that if you were to have someone run up your ass (i need a new front end respray) you will not be covered by Insurance and that the police might defect you.
I would save your pennies and get something less illegal. But the above process is pretty much right. Perhaps it will be a good idea for you to do a 'how to' while your at it..

For road going vehicles:
Any (ANY) modification(s), unless approved to ADR standards, that change/alter/modify any aspect of your vehicle from the ADR standards/requirements that existed at the time of manufacture of your vehicle are ILLEGAL.
VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC (VEHICLE STANDARDS) REGULATIONS 2001 - REG 78
78. Performance of tail lights
(1) When on, a tail light of a vehicle must –
(a) show a red light visible 200 metres from the rear of the vehicle; and
(b) not use over 7 watts power.
Furthermore, if you insist on taking the risk of someone rear-ending you in poor visibility, that's your choice. Hope that you can understand that Insurance Companies will likely wipe their hands of you and any liability. In other words, you loose.
He specifically asked how to remove them, not if tinting is legal. Anyone with half a brain would know it is illegal just let him deal with the consequences.
BTW It only looks good when its very light, or If you tint the boarders of the lights as shown In this page: Jeff's 2004 VZ Acclaim
I think its good that people look out for other people on here, if your more then happy to let him have a defectable car and not remind him its not such a good idea, then go for it. No one was telling him what to do.
BTW - who are you to tell anyone else what looks good, what i like, you may not.. thats the power of a diplomatc society. I think Nth Korea are still Communistic

Tint spray never looks good it dulls the finish and rarely ends up in uniform coverage.
Calais lights are a great upgrade as they look hot without being tinted.
Silver Certified.
open boot remove boot 'catcher' garnish
peel back boot lining, undo 3 lock nuts on back of light chassis
slide out light chassis.. may need the help the bolts slide off the car body
remove globes/globe housing, by twist mount out of the lock position
tape up indicator/revers light section..
apply 3 light to moderate coats of 'night shades.. DO NOT OVER DO IT.. WHEN YOU SPRAY IT IT LOOKS HEAVY/DARK... BUT DRIES LIGHTER..
apply 5 coats of clear coat spray paint..
allow to dry, remove tape, and reinstall

Ok then I am happy, what he does to his car is his problem. He asked how to remove the tail lights and I gave him some advice. Im just saying, Any person with half a brain would of already known and analysed the risks.
BTW I am allowed to tell someone what I think looks good, as I would be giving them my OPINION. In Which I have the right to do so?
Im not going to bother replying to you again, OP good luck with your light tinting eh.

Thanks for the mention haha but as everyone else has said... (Ricey sums it up best)
If i had known how it would have turned out i would've just saved for some proper actual tail lights.
These are some ok examples of some other than Calais. Might not be to everyone's taste but it gives you a rough idea of what's out there and better options than tinting i reckon
