Hi guys,
Got my car service recently, guys said there was a slight oil leak so he degreased and said to monitor.
Been having the "Check Oil" beeps and warnings every-time I turn on the car now.
Oil is full though as they put in 6 odd litres.
Anyone had this issue?
are you guessing it's full cause they said they put in 6 litres, or have ya checked the dipstick?

V6 or V8??
Probably the Oil pressure sensor/switch however I am no mechanic and others could have a better idea.... I would be taking it to someone who can hook it up to a tech2 and check the codes being returned.
Good luck.
i have checked it yes.
probably a sensor/connector, doubt it'd drop six litres, and besides you checked it...
doubt it'd be a pressure issue also...
maybe something didn't like getting a bath and degrease.. water...
i got the same after the dealer changed the oil? i just dont worry about it coz its full? lol
lol, faulty pressure sender.
Pressure swtich throws an engine light not an oil warning.
"Check Oil" warning is definitely an indication of low oil pressure being sensed by the ECM (Engine Control Module). You said that mechanic told you it had a slight oil leak so he cleaned the motor down!!. Could it be that the oil pressure sender under the oil filter is the point of the oil leak? If this were the case then the switch (sender) is possibly faulty and causing the warning message even though the oil pump is pressurizing the oil galleys correctly. If you actually had low oil pressure you'd notice the lack of performance and engine would be noisy particularly in the valve train area. If you can't resolve the issue yourself take it to another mechanic who knows what he's doing and get it corrected.
+1 oil pressure sensor
with heating and cooling they develop a leak past the internals to the pins coming out of them and hence dont read properly anymore as leaking the pressure its trying to read
sometimes the sensor inside disconnects from the housing too
i have pulled some apart as i wanted to know why its such a common problem...
this check engine oil light in vz for this fault will often also have "service vehicle soon" come up but not every time
both of these lights on ipc require a code to be set in the ecm so need to get an obd2 checker or scantool and see codes is
then replace that part
heres one i bought recently after being sick of bringing stuff home from work
workls great shows all data for engine and can clear and read engine dtc codes

and for this much why not huh?
Got in touch with local holden dealer/service centre. quoted $79 for part and $130 for labour. Does this seem a little high to anyone?
Very high, the part can be had for $65ish and can be fitted by yourself (easily) using an $18 bit from Repco and a standard ratchet. Whereabouts in Perth are you? If you are anywhere near Joondalup and/or Wangara I have a scan-tool I can run to check if the Oil Pressure Sensor is the leading cause of the issue (unless of course the dealer already did this).

we had a vz do this to us. i serviced it and i went to move it out and it flashed low oil. i re checked the level, it was full. plug in the scan tool and there was no oil pressure. wiggled the wires and it came back to life.
lol wiggled the wires, hit it with a hammer, boot it, punch it... lol, yea that got it

Does it say Check Oil or Service Engine Oil?
If it's the latter, ignore it, it means nothing.
Silver Certified.
I had the same problem with my VZ and replaced the sender with one from Repco which cost about $75. I have the special 3/8" drive socket if anyone is around Hampton Park area and wants to use it and save themselve $18. All was well for a day or two but the Service Vehicle Soon AND Check Oil warnings are appearing again. The oil level is OK. Does anyone have any suggestions? The electrical connector doesnt seem to be as tight a fit on the new sender as it is on the old one. I might buy a scan tool with PC interface from eBay if the tape doesn't stop the problem.
Phyco - what are the codes if it is the replacement oil sender that's causing the problem?
