G'day all,
Have a VZ SV6. I've been ringing around for quotes on a basic service for it as it has just ticked over 90,000km. The quotes that I received ranged from $259 to $476. I thought that these quotes were a little high considering what little work is done. I'm also looking to upgrade to full synthetic oil as it only costs a little extra but is worth it in the long run.
So what did you pay for your last basic oil and filter service?
Injected CNG, LNG & LPG: The only way to go better!
We just had our VZ V6 Wagon 2005 serviced (180,000km) and we were quoted from $280 to $400 odd.
I remember paying $149 for our last service on the same vehicle. We paid $30 for synthetic oil too. This was at a Holden dealer BTW!

Here is a link to a website which I found helpful which compares fixed price quotes between different businesses.
Cheers.
Fixed Price Car Service: Auto Service, Car Repairs, Car Servicing
Ridiculous. I'm not paying high $300s for a simple oil service!

Just Sold my Acclaim.
But the 75,000klm service done a few months ago was around the $150 mark, filter/flashlube/Mobil 1 and labour.
Was a local mechanic job.
$400 to change your oil and filters LMAO theres like at the most $100 in parts and it would take maybe an hour so that means labour costs are at $300 an hour. I'll service everyones car at that rate only have to do 1 a day and i'd b rolling in cash

Standard specified warranty service for this VZ Commodore is $240 and which can include additional checks/servicing requested by me (have recently fitted a K&N air filter). We were very happy with the first service with the car: in at 9.30am and out at 1.30pm mid-December despite a huge number of cars booked-in, with a long list of checks (91,000km interval), replacements (oil, filters etc.) done in that time. The oil change was with Magnatec, apparently recommended for Alloytecs (somebody else here might know more about that...).

$240 is a good price, i thought the 90,000 was a major service which inc flushes and a list of labour as long as your arm, as well as a few expensive part replacements

I'm actually looking at pricing myself aswell.
My car is at 169,400km at the moment, apparently 165,000km is a major service, 172,000km is 'minor' & 180,000km is major service, prices are $280, $110, $380 respectively from Holden.
I continually receive a 'Service at 170,000km' flash on my dash.
I have only just got this car within a week, the book was a replacement and has no service logs at all, so i cannot confirm when the last service was actually done.
Not sure if i should 'assume' the service at 165,000km was done and just get the 172,000km minor service or just get the 165,000km service done? I'm thinking for $170 more, it might give me a bit more piece of mind considering more is done on the 165,000km service than 172,000km.
Any input?
If the Service at 170,000km message is still there it is anybody's guess if it actually was serviced, or the message was not reset by the Techie (or whoever else did the service), which is routine. I'd be earnestly ferreting around / making enquiries for some sort of service record for the car; it is strange to learn that the service book you have is a "replacement". There could be any meaning in that. Suggest booking the chariot in for 172,000km service and look-over and see how things go from there with regular service intervals following.

135k minor service @$120.00 o.k. price, crap job! Oil & filter change, balance & rotate tyres.
Didn't change oil filter! Tyre nuts torqued up to at least 180 nm. Had to stand & jump on brace bar to get them undone!
They will not see my car again.![]()
You pay for what you get, same with anything you do to your car.. the parts are the bit where you can save

Was told a story about Metro Holden Adelaide today, young lady getting her vehicle serviced there, the set log book service was carried out yet the bill ended up being more than double the 'set price' for the service.
Seems they listed the oil filter, oil, plugs etc as 'extra requirements' and charged her for it.
When queried about it the mechanic pretty much said to piss off or he'll get the manager. So the friend of the lady took him up on the offer and after a chat she was reimbursed the money charged above the 'fixed price'
She no longer plans on going to Metro Holden Adelaide for a service...
worried about a commodore service. major service on the daughters subaru is around $1200.00. they tried to charge her $100 for blended sythetic oil, she went off her nut and told them it was around $50 for that crap and full synthetic was only $80.00, the smart arse serviceman told her if she could buy oil that cheap and show the receipt he would give her 20% discount on her service. she walked down to supercheap and bought it back. $63.00. didnt tell him she works there so gets a good discount. slimy little service managers.
i do as the voices tell me
Ended up booking the car in for a service at our LPG fitter. $120 for an oil service (Penrite HPR 10w60 oil, new oil filter, new air filter), 30min labour to put new plugs in + $38 for new manifold gasket, and $90 for the annual LPG service. Sounds reasonable to me.

that sounds good to me. just got our vt done today, yes im too lazy, $135 including oil, filter and put in plugs supplied by us.
charmhaven auto electrical and mechanical in ohart close. great people.

MY daughter had her VE V6 serviced at 75k through Ultratune for $240. The 90k service would have cost over $330 at Ultratune and over $480 at the local dealer. It's not much more than an oil filter, oil and air filter change and the usual check for loose and damaged parts, worn pads etc. The scheduled time allowance for the service is 1.7 hours.
Frankly, I think both Ultratune and the dealer are excessive for the work involved, although the dealership charge is highway robbery. Her car will now be serviced by me and the last 10k's of her warranty are bye-bye. If it was me, I would have preserved the last bit of the factory warranty and had the car serviced by Ultratune, even though the cost is a bit much, but she doesn't quite see things the way I do.
I have a VZ SV6 and pay between $120-$150 for a service. Used to goto a dealer and it was $250-$650. Very happy with local Mechanic. Took a long time to find a decent mechanic though, they are few and far between.
Price sounds about right!! Remember that you get ripped with nearly everything you buy these days, so why would mechanics be any different.
Get it done at ultra tune
Fully synth oil and get ya injectors cleaned
Did wonders to my car
When I bought my VY, ex Government car it had balance of new car warranty still on it. Pay hundreds of bucks for dealers or mechanics to change my oil, charge me for a filter that is probably not changed? I don't think so! I voided my warranty and have self serviced it myself since I got it, and that is over servicing too, 7,000k oil changes, etc, etc, etc. IMO they can stick their warranties up their arse, rip off pricks.
It is hard to find a good, honest mechanic these days, so if someone would rather pay for services and they have found a "good" mechanic, then stick with them, you are lucky.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
ive said it before and i'll say it again... you pay for what you get. If you want to pay $100 for a shitty service where all they change is the oil, cuz they cant get the oil filter out then go for it.. I speak from experience here too, i paid for the $100 minor service and thats all they did.. They also checked the brakes too, but forgot to tighten a few wheel nuts up... I'll happily pay a few extra bucks for a quality job.
