New Rotors (Is There A Running In Period?)

Hey guys,

Ive just got new some new rotors for my VZ, went down the DBA 4000 Slotted road with Ultimates, Is there a running in with new rotors?

I need to start a thread for my 3yr Club Spec VZ SV6

there is a bedding in proceedure you should perform to ensure good braking and minimise rotor warping. DBA should list the bedding in proceedure. it mainly consists of maintain speed of say 60kph then braking to 10kph then repeating say 3 times then repeating the whole proceedure at 80kph then 100kph, but it does vary between manufactures

Pretty much on the money, although, I'd try around 6 x 60kph - 10kph applications - DO NOT STOP COMPLETELY.

Then, 6 x 80kph - 10kph applications - again, do not stop.

Then, 2 x 100kph to 40kph.

Use a firm, smooth brake application, do not jump on them.

And then, you're done. Ensure you allow for a bit of cooling between stops.

i know with the rda rotors, i had to apply heavy braking from 60-10km/h 8-10 times, where as soon as i got to 10km/h, i had to accelerate to 60, then brake again. felt a bit like a douche doing it down the street with people watching me, they prob thought "what a wank thinking hes driving a v8 supercar" lol because thats pretty much what u have to do, like when they warm up. there should also be instructions with the brake pads, some manufacturers say just to drive normally for 1000km but without braking heavily, and only small braking

1000kms is a fair whack to bed in some pads...

Rubbish... I whack mine in and go for it.. Normal driving 'beds' them in...

not really, there is a correct way.. if you get the rotors hot then stop for a period of time, the pad contact on the rotors traps the heat in that one spot causing hotspots, which in time can lead to warping.

WTF??? How does that make sense, the pads and rotors are designed to dicipate heat, besides, unless you got your foot on the brake pedal, they shouldn't be touch the rotor anyway. And for them to warp, I assume this would have to occur for a number of days constantly...

We are not talking about v8 super car brakes here, these are the ordinary ones fitted to most stock commodores. They should nit get got enough to warp any rotors.. Average driving, normal circumstances, I'm sure the brakes cool down fairly quickly, otherwise they would suffer brake fade and u would see a lot more commodores falling off the side of hills and cliffs

i fitted new pads? = yes
do i need to brake easy for 100km's or so = yes
do i avoid HEAVY BRAKING = yes

there we go
just fit them right,
take it easy for a week
and DONT wash them out hot and you wont have any problems with slotted rotors

oh fyi slotted brake rotors disapate brake fade AND dust build up causing glazing
drilled and slotted greatly improve on above
my vt got brake fade at a 150km/hr to dead stop application of brakes
dont know how many of you are braking that heavy?
