I know how annoying it can be when you get asked the same questions over and over on a VZ exhaust system, but I think I've already answered the 'exhaust' part for myself. Anyway,
I'm currently coming up with an exhaust system to have installed in the next 2 weeks or so in my VZ alloytec v6, I've decided on a 2.5" single catback, Pacemaker extractors, but the hard part is where the Cats come in...
At a basic level I know my cats should be "high flow", but i'm lost in terms of brand name and CPSI
Would anybody like to contribute their expertise/advice?
Thanks!
You don't really need high flow cats.
You can just cut and shut the standard item and its as good as you need.
Otherwise anything will do you, but 100cpi is illegal.
I've always just bought high flow. which i think is the 300cpsi...But you can get the ceramic ones which are 200cpsi (correct me if wrong) and less cpsi the higher flow. and the more noise. as for brands i have no idea. i'd assume more you pay the better usually but cats a cat. if it blows the center out. meh. more flow. just dont go to NSW they do on road side CO2 tests.
Or even just get the cells removed so its basicly like normal piping so it just looks like you have cats. same for mufflers![]()
okay so 100cpsi is ruled out, the only reason I ask is because I've heard if you use stock cats with extractors they COULD melt? do you get much of a noticeable performance/sound level out of them?
The exhaust sounds a little deeper. Performance wise it might but anything you feel is in your head. In other words very minimal and not worth the $400.
Cut and shut your existing cat for $80.

To be considered *high performance he would need to do a damn sight more then just the exhaust system.
yeah I guess the only reason I wanted the cats was to ensure my stock ones wouldn't melt LOL!! I guess i'll just tell my mate doing my exhaust that i want "high flow cats" haha
That'll triple the cost of the exhaust, you do realise that.
I must be in a cone of silence, I swear it.
Nah, if you find a decent shop that has a clue they'll know what your on about.
mate has the stock cats on his sv6 with extractors, hasnt melted yet... and that was a few years ago
that would be me, no need for aftermarket cats, stock r good
