hey guys just wondering if anybody has had any problems with their vz alloytec not running clean thru the rev range under heavy accelerating ? almost like pinging under load.
how many k's ?
Any other symptoms like rough idle ?
105 thousand
slight rattle first thing in the morning.
has the usual miss at idle i believe thats
normal though.
been thinking about it for
a while and remembered that i put injector
cleaner through it about 2000km ago. and it
didn't have a problem before then.
spark plugs?
not normal to have a miss at idle lol as said id be checking spark plugs, maybe coils? and run a few tanks of 98 if you dont use that alrdy
I had a full inspection from dempster holden esperance on it when i first bought it,
they said it was a normal for it have a slight miss at idle occasionally especially with the first of the alloytecs.
It's either your spark plugs or coils.
Had the exact same issue at almost the same K's.
i will pick up some new spark plugs for it tommorow.
process of elimination i guess
you could always just pull out the three plugs that are easy to get to and have a look at them... it could very well be one of your coils aswell, finding out which one will be process of elimination.
Have the plugs ever been changed? Good place to start if they have not.
i dont think they have ever been changed
As others have said id be getting a new set and changing them, and yes you have to remove the manifold to get to any of them
Plugs last anywhere between 100,000 and 120,000km if the correct plugs for Alloytec engines were specified (platinum).
Do you have any idea at all when they may have been installed?

IF its only done 105K they will be the original plugs
you can definantly remove both back ones and i think the middle drivers side plug by just removing the engine covers. the coils are held in with one bolt each about 10mm head then with a little bit of force they pop out. its easier if you can remove the input plug first. i had a faulty coil and there were no error codes until the diagnostics machine was plugged in, pin pointed misfire in the exact cylinder. since plugs were new just got new coil and fixed the problem instantly.
I had a similar problem with mine but it was due to the cats well at least one of them being stuffed I had a slight vw bettleish sound to it between 1200 - 2000rpm don't know if this is what you are experiencing mine had only done 55000ks but I bought it new and have driven it pretty hard
