Hey guys i know your sick of the exhaust threads but so am i and i just want a few questions answered straight up.
Firstly i would just like to say i went to two exhaust joints today and both gave me absolute rubbish advice, one said that a twin 2 1/2" redback catback alone was gonna cost me $500 and if i wanted to get headers i would have to get headers, new cats AND have it tuned..all up that was gonna cost $2800..(twin 2 1/2" is to big anyways..)
The second joint quoted me on a redback single 2 1/4" catback for $800 and to be honest im pretty sure this dude was talking out of his ass..
So i have decided that i will buy the parts of ebay and follow the advice of you guys (the ones that actually have to car) and get my mate to put it all on for me.
Heres my questions
(1) - Would a twin 2 1/4" catback or a Single 2 1/2" catback sound better?
(2) - Should I bother buying the cats?
(3) - I know im definetly getting pacemaker headers, but can anyone recommend good brand catback and/ or good brand cats?
Thank you,
Ryan
I haven't done my exhaust as yet. But Pacemaker do make entire bolt in systems. I was looking at the twin 2.25" And fitting it myself, it's just a matter of finding some spare cash and time. And deciding whether I want the rear muffler or not.

I aim to misbehave.
I've the pacemaker system on my SS. Epic quality mufflers for the price. I don't have the rear muffler and its not loud at all. Just a nice bark. No drone either.
Twin system is certainly the way to go.
You won't get a beefy note out of the Alloytec, they sound girly at the best of times.
I don't have a rear muffler, and it sounds awesome. But I've got an SS. Being as the systems are the same, I wouldn't think the quality of sound should differ too much. Just the note.
It is very expensive to get a decent note out of the alloytec. The only way to do it is to have something custom made. I do a twin 2 1/4" into single 3" but it is quiet. Everything off the shelf is either too quiet or too ricey sounding. The alloytec is a small high revving engine and it will never sound like the Buick variety. I think that is what most people are hung up on with these engines, they try and make them sound deep and loud, can't be done. It is a different engine and has a different sound. Hopefully people will accept that and just deal with the fact that it sounds like a Skyline.
haha, good point.
i have a twin 2.5 on mine, and i really dont care what any one else says about the size, i have asked lots of people about the size of my exhaust (from exhaust specialists, exhaust performance places, race car drivers/ builders) and pretty much have said that a twin 2.5 is fine for my engine, and not too big. i guess the difference in the sizes would most likely be the power delivery that you want, IMO, i think that a single 2.5 would be better for low down power, and a twin 2.5 would be better up in the higher rpm. different strokes for different blokes.
have a look on youtube, and find something that you like and have a system made for you that is similar to them. good luck!
Mad sounding from a recording and played back through PC speakers.....hmmmm....just the sort of reference I would use to build an exhaust.....
which no doubt, being a 'mad sounding' recording, is awesome...
Life starts at 200km/h
I have a VZ calais (3.6) and had this runaround when I got my exhaust. Nearly settled on a single 2.5" xforce (or redback cant quite remember), stopped in at one more joint on the way home and they had a twin 2 1/8" which they tell me is the perfect for note and won't lose any power.
I'm happy as with it, no drone, a lot rounder note than other systems. Could be a touch louder but I can drop the rear muffler if it comes to that.
So anyway that is an HM headers/perry exhausts stainless system, 1100 RRP i think, I got it on trade price for a bit cheaper though.
